how does it explain it is it because of the nuke scene? if so thats kinda vauge espec why would he be the only one that survives when there are 2 power armored goons right there that are far more likely to survive
I don't believe it far-fetched that vault tec would leave a few scientists in some of their vaults.
But my money still remains on a similar concept of the Mass Effect Protheans:
Cryo tubes requires power to function, but over the years power becomes less and less, so to save power they need to switch off 1 Cryo at the time, this would mean that if the character got out 200 years later and there are 1000 people in the vault, 1 person needs to be switched off every 2-3 months for the rest to survive. This will either mean these people are let out of the vault or they simply die. First idea seems cooler because it means there would be survivors of Vault 111 throughout the wastelands and it could make it interesting for your character to go find his unfrozen, older son/spouse.
But since we were told the protagonist was the only survivor it could either be what the actual protagonist believe (which is not the truth) or just a way to screw with our minds until the game is released.
Edit:
Oh and one very last theory without the use of cryo, could by that they were experimenting with traveling at the speed of light in that vault, and as you know traveling at the speed of light means you are propelled forward in time.
Also im sure everyone has noticed that vault 111 has a vertical vault door. Wonder why that is...
One last theory. What if it was a form of cloning project? In the E3 footage we saw that the protagonist was standing OUTSIDE the vault when the nukes fell. So he may very well have died there. Maybe the cloning facility (If my theory is correct) brought him back after 200 years?
These are all just theories so dont burn me for my train of thought please.
Cryo has been already used twice within the fallout world (Vault 112 and Mr. House). Cloning has also been used to appalling results... right Gary?
I think only a handful, literally only like 4-5? And those were reserved only for the "important" people.
Like take vault 101. The project there was to see if it is possible to maintain a "Pure" race of humans for the rest of eternity. Which the overseer was forced to enforce.
