If you believe a certain tower owner from FO3... UK's even less hospitable than the current US. So... yeah... imagine Capitol Wasteland being 100x worse, and that's probably the FO UK.

Although, you really should take this with a pinch of salt. If UK was really so horribly off, how did Tenpenny manage to find out the situation in US before leaving UK? And how did he manage to leave UK and travel to US, carrying his wealth with him? Who provided the transportation?

Maybe it will be mentioned at some point but seems unlikely as the whole inspiration and theme for the game is taking the whole 1950's America vision of a nuclear family/ robots/ sci fi in the future and turning it into a a nightmare in an alternate reality. Kinda seems moot to bring Europe into the plot as all we know is it was America vs China and America is the future wasteland in which the game is set.

But who knows...we may see a Fallout: London. Wait and see I guess.

Edit: Seems there is mention of the UK. Guess I need to play again to find that refrence.

Starbug was made prime minister, he let a bunch of islamic jihadists take over because they were wielding AK-47's made in the US, and since those jihadists have no idea what technology is, all of the nukes aimed at the UK were able to make it through.

Behind the scenes
"Allistair Tenpenny came to the Capital Wasteland from Great Britain to seek his fortune, so that alone tells you that the U.K. was also hit in the war. And if he came to U.S. to succeed, that says a lot about how screwed up Europe must be. So we just allude, a little bit, to the state of the rest of the world. We like to leave a lot to the players' imaginations, and somebody like Tenpenny serves as a catalyst for those thoughts." - Emil Pagliarulo

I find it harder to beleive it was so badly hit because it wouldnt have been such a major target, also who is going to waste valuable nukes on the more exposed parts of wales and scotland, or some of the British cities. A nuke would do more good than bad in some of the places I have been :P

Before the war the entire European union got into a resource war with the middle east for the oil deposits.
As apart of the lore, neither side could gain much of an advantage over the other and the losses were significant.
After all the oil had dried up, the war was no longer sustainable or desirable and both sides fell apart to infighting.

It's an interesting back story and it has a lot of potential for a really compelling story.

I like to imagine they seized the opportunity to go to war with france and another 100 years war-esque scenario happened.

Yeah, but at least we survived ;P

I imagine that the UK would be in slightly better state than the US, as (from what I can tell), we weren't as much involved in the Great War between the US and China. Although, if the politics were anything like they are today, the UK would've been forced to assist the US by our parliament... And, if again like today, we'd have had superior tech but less numbers. So if a FO game is made in the UK, I'd LOVE to see some suped-up power armour
