Fallout 4 Repair System Vs Fallout New Vegas Repair System
This thread is about discussing whether Fallout 4 going to be the better repair system compared to Fallout New Vegas.

The most common problem that I have with Fallout New Vegas was the lack of balanced in repairing. It brought me lot of pain because the weapon's durability were terrible. As durability go lower and lower, your weapon will jam more often and the damage was puny. Not only was it terrible, the repair system was expensive, awkward, and lacking.

There were 3 ways if I remember correctly without using mods, using weapon kit to repair weapon, taking a similar weapon and consuming it to repair the similar weapon, and taking to the NPC to repair your weapon for set bottlecap rate.

The weapon kit would likely restore 2/3 of the weapon's durability. The weapon kit was very few. The mod that I know would made weapon kit craftable using using set of tools, wonderglue, duct tape, wrench, etc. It was a good univesal first aids for weapon but not commonly available.

Another way was to take a similar weapon then comsume it to give a random repair based on the weapon's durability applied. It was awkward and was resource draining for the collection of weapons looted from enemies.

Lastly, the NPC from different towns with different set repair skills could repair your weapon for x amount of bottlecaps. The rate wasn't very cheap. They do cost more to repair than to buy or loot a weapon. What players have to understand is that bottlecaps, beside other currencies, is a universal currency that everybody use but not everybody have. Fallout didn't have a printing press that print out bottlecap. Without going into discussion about it, I say it explains why NPC repair system was completely unfair.

So, can we get a discussion going because that is my concern for Fallout 4. I can understand that there will be a mod workship in game. But, I still worried about the availability and common odd of looting parts.

Since there's no info released that suggests FO4 *even has* a repair system, what exactly is there to be discussed?

I'm not sure how you got to this - When I played, even on Hardcore, I was swimming in gear and money within a couple of hours.

I installed a mod or two specifically to cut down on the amount of loot and money found.

"help me i can't remember to keep spare weapons in my inventory to repair my guns with boo hoo remove all complex systems my brain can't handle them boo hoo"
Mate go play another game.
Repairing in fallout is literally *literally* the most easy part of the game.
I don't think i've had a playthrough for years where my main weapons weren't at %100 constantly.
If you keep switching out your weapons every time you pick up a new one of course you're stuffs gonna be broken all the time.

Weapon Kit is craftable for me without any mods(i think it's DLC or something). And repairing is easy. I don't know what so hard to pick up spare guns/armor to repair yours. I use NPCs or Weapon Kit only in emergencies and with unique weapons such as Holorifle. And Jury Rigging perk makes repairing even easier.

But, why would I trash a similar weapon to repair a weapon? Doesn't make sense.

If people wouldn't melee often, they would have complain about the repair system. The cost of repairing was aweful. Repair skill mod allows lowering degrading weapon based on Repair skill. Should be something to implement in Fallout 4?

No, why would I want to trash a 100 bottlecaps gun giving 50%+ repair in Jury Rig? You don't seems to understand or appreciate the Repair system balance. I know about Jury Rig. It is a dumb Repair perk.

In KRON's case, it is cheaper and more effective to buy or craft a Weapon Repair kit that is worth 100+ bottlecap and do 80-90% repair. You even get 10% bonus if you have Wrench in your personal inventory. The part to make Weapon Repair kit is about 20-30 bottlecaps depending on Barter skill.

Come on guys! think and brainstorm!

In Fallout 4, this Repair system is now changed. I don't think weapon will ever wear out.

What?.. Who the hell cares about 100 caps by the time you get jury rigger?
It's a totally game breaking, over the top skill that turns you into a money printer on the spot.
Who in their right mind is going to burn up all the scrap in the land to make weapon repair kits over a couple of caps that you will have no use for anyway?

Repair a Supersledge with a poolstick and make 4000 caps in one hit.. It's just crazy.

On a side note.
There should be a notoriety system of some kind going on.. Like if you have a shack loaded out with some stupid amount of treasure in a land full of people with nothing, someone should notice. There should be people looking to take you out and rob you blind or something. Some kind of reaction to the fact you seem to own enough weaponry to supply an army..
The Brotherhood should be kicking your tin door down as they find out you have more energy weapons than they do.

They should make it so you had a use for all those guns beside turning them into a mountain of caps you will never spend.. Like giving weapons and ammo to settlements, traders, factions.. Either to assist or to supply an enemy of my enemy. Something like that.

yep, most unbalanced perk in New Vegas.

JR = infinite money at level 14 (so implants + ammo + GRA stuff...). It only requieres a little of method and preparation (dont sell any looted crappy guns/clothes, stock them). With some time and patience, the game is broken at this point.

Jury rig isnt really a dumb perk, it allows you to take a measly 9mm or maybe 10mm you took off a dead corpse and repair that amazing 12.7 mm pistol you have, with max repair and the perk I have never had a problem, and I play on hardcore!

So, what having infinite mob assassin coming after you because you aren't in good term is balance too? especially for Skyrim? Because that how I made most of my money in Fallout and Skyrim

Hey! a group of assassin! I hope they brings the most expensive toys *wink* *wink*
