if they're as op as they were in F3, prob just keep the dog for light tanking....even if the exp will be shared, I dont like my companions outshining me on the battlefield

Depends on how interesting they're going to be. If they're just emotionless cardboard cutouts that follow you around like in Skyrim, I rather go alone.

The first time I played through FO3 I didn't know you could scoop up dogmeat until the second time played and explored the map a lot more thorough. I do like the feeling of desolation when soloing completely.

It'd really depend on whether or not I find any of the companions interesting. I know I won't be going with the dog or Codsworth the first time around. As far as I know, you can also only have one companion with you at a time, so the choice is pretty important. Anyway, don't know about Preston Garvey either. He seems like a very altruistic character from what we've seen of him—which is nice, but I'd like to see what other kinds of personalities there are. We basically know nothing about Piper; maybe she'll be interesting.

I never understood why Farendal becomes a follower.

They should 'do' stuff too - I dont know why it didnt bother me in Skyrim, but in F3 they were eerily behind you...it just felt like artificial ai on autofollow.
Reload a gun, check the sights on their weapon, adjust armor or something...blink

I tend to play a choatic good character in bethesda's games. I tend to view the dog as food and robot followers as a resource for scrap parts.

If they stay outside my house while I'm in it, then yes, companion!

Who knows? It's very clear that when it comes to followers in Skyrim they took quantity over quality. The only slightly interesting companion in Skyrim IMO is Serana (Dawnguard DLC only) and heck, even she is just 'okay'.

Probably solo for the first play-through, as companions are going to be set as essential, and I want to be able to get a grip of the game mechanics first without my companion KS'ing me.

Hell I don't even remember Dawnguard all that well or Dragonborn those DLCs were forgettable. I did like that last mission in Dragonborn the effects in the library were dank.

Can't be having no immortal dog around.

Ah, okay XD. I'm neutral good, generally. I would view the robot and dog as being creatures capable of feeling, so I would be kind to them and whatnot. My primary concern is getting an interesting companion, in this instance.

Depends if the dog is good enough to survive a fat man to the face.
