there is exactly one offical sidekick that can die, depending how you solve one Faction Quest, thats it....
Edit:
For clarity, 4 companions can die in one playthrough based on your choices
And 3 of those are base-game companions. Only 1 is a DLC companion. Though only one of them has a specific quest that involves it. The others are made vulnerable based on other quests or actions.
For anyone interested: Danse, X6-88, Deacon, and Gage are all killable at one point or another.
4 Vanilla companions are killable
Apparently you have to completely trash your affinity. Get it all the way to the bottom. While most don't work like this, those 2 companions seem to from what I can find.
Only if you have a mod that makes it so. Most of them are never killable. They only drop down to their knees, then get back up a short time later.
Dogmeat for sure can't die, you need him for the main story line.
