downtown boston fps
bro, ok so I have a 2070s and am getting ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ 19 fps in downtown boston, this ♥♥♥♥ is so badly optimized its actually crazy. I mean yeah i have a few texture mods and an enb but HOLY ♥♥♥♥, do I need to be a rocket scientist to improve my optimization????

Yep those enb’s will get u. Might be a mod or two to help you. What resolution you playing on?
Flare Jul 19, 2021 @ 11:46pm
1080p lmao, I lowered my shadows to medium which helped a lot but still
Shaboopy-Nubbins Jul 19, 2021 @ 11:57pm

Damn that’s not right you should be getting better than that with your gpu on 1080 for sure. How’s your temperatures? You running too hot?

Drop weapon debris as well.
Drop the enb just to test what your getting without it and report back.

I’m on a 1070 with 70ish mods playing on 2k res.. all 2k retextures and retextured windows, roads, all of it. In downtown Boston I typically maintain above 30fps with no enb. I might dip briefly into the 20s but my hardware is definitely not up to par with yours so check those things out. You have decent RAM as well I’m assuming?

The shadow distance is the most likely cause if it. If you go into the ini file, the medium shadow setting is 3000 but the high settings is 10 000 or 12 000. No idea why betheasda has put such high numbers for the high setting. It doesn't make any sense when going from medium to high to have such a drastic difference. I got mine set a 6000.
But that not the only cause. Downtown Boston just runs poorly, we need to thank Betheasda for that.

yeah its a lot better with lowered shadows thanks for the inputs, but bethesda really needs to figure their ♥♥♥♥ out like, I have this beefy rig and the engine just cant handle it.

It's a feature.

Not bad since you're using an enb. I remember first playing FO4 on the Xbox One, Boston was single digit fps (at least when the BoS arrived).

fps is determined by the cpu. It creates the scene. The gpu is only relevant if it's not strong enough to render at the fps that the cpu can pump out. It can't add fps. On vanilla FO4 a 2070s will have no problem at 1080p, 1440p nor 4k. I have a 2070 and 1080ti and 4k is not an issue for either with mods.

So if your gpu is at 100% load then it's whatever you have done with add-ons.

Regarding cpu, for FO4 the single-thread speed is the primary attribute that determines fps output. Overclocking can add about 10%.

Some mods will disable important optimizations.

yep, i agree. I got a 2080 with an i7 8700k and 32 gb of ram, i know that feeling too. By tweaking the ini files myself and adding some mods that improved performance a bit, i now got a game that pretty stable and don't get a lot of fps drops anymore. Still from time to time i get crashes, mostly due to the nvidia driver but i can live with that as it doesn't happen a lot.

Yeah the game has a lot of fps dips but usually it stays around 40 ish for me

the issue is with "occlusion culling planes" in Boston, the cull stuff that the player 100% can't see, but at certain distances the amount of calculations the game has to do in order to make sure there are no graphical issues (yes I know, Bethesda full of bugs yada yada), and some parts of buildings don't get culled and it's an issue with Bethesda's aging game engine, it was fine with older games because the LOD on building wasn't nearly as detailed as they are in FO4 by comparison.

plus as a few people already pointed out, ENB's can really wreak havoc with FPS in any game, because you are essentially broadcasting a set of filters directly into EVERY single frame of the game, which puts a massive load on your hardware. nobody ever complains about it too much on console because consoles can't use ENB's.

so while yes the game could have been put together a bit better, it's also on YOU as a user to understand the limitations of your hardware. that would be like me trying to run crysis on a Windows '95 machine, and then complaining that the devs "didn't optimize the game for my hardware" when I'm also trying to play minecraft in the background while also rendering a 4K video in the background. KNOW the limitations of your hardware and understand the limitations of a game engine from a nearly 10 year old game. My christ man, take some responsibility.

21 Jul, 2021 was the last post. You didn't need to necro this
Zes Oct 31, 2023 @ 5:51pm
Well i always read technical informations, which is worth a necro. It will sit here and wait to be found on a google search.

I Respect.
