Vault 88: Choose between good experiments or Barstow
I want all of the Vault 88 experiments to be good since I want to have them in other settlements, but I also don't want to lose Overseer Barstow. Is there a way in the game to change the experiments? Or do I have to make a choice?

You have to make a choice. And she has nothing good for the Vault if she does stay. And she is a psychopath, so do not feel bad if she leaves.

I like that answer. Thank you.

The short answer is to pick the Mood Enhancer for the soda fountain.

Overseer Barstow is inevitably going to be unhappy if you pick all the "nice" options, but there is a very happy middle ground, since you can convince her to stay with a speech check as long as at least one of the experiments suits her. Of the three initial experiments, the mood enhancer choice for the soda fountain is the non-lethal one that Barstow accepts.

The settlers will have spacey lines to say about the fountain drinks, but unlike the power cycle and phoropter, there's no chance of death.

If overseer Barstow is still around, is she able to change the Soda Fountain to Caffeine for other settlements? For example, I want Caffeine for my settlers, and Mood Enhancer for the raiders settlement.

No. What you select during the test is permanent. And carries over to the Vault 88 like items in other settlements you build.

Like I said, she offers nothing good by staying.

And for future reference. should the quest ever bug out on you, wait until the other settlers go to sleep and shoot her in the head. You can then loot all the patterns for the Vault 88 items you get by testing.

Except an additional unique named settler. Whether you want that is up to you, but if you do the Mood Enhancer is the way to go.

You may even prefer it, since it gives a substantially bigger happiness boost than the Regular Caffeination option.

Which with that and at a cost of 50 caps, gives you purified water.

Good point about the Mood enhancer choice.

It's the same if she leaves, and you'll only be replacing her with an utterly generic settler.

Yes. And? For my char and how I want to role play, I do not want her in my settlement. And I actually do not feel bad shooting her in the head if the stage of the quest gets bugged.

My char at one point says to her, " Vault Tech can go to hell for all I care ". And " you do know you are a psychopath? "

Sure, for your character. The OP said they wanted her, and there's nothing wrong with that choice, either.

I never said it was bad for the OP to choose to keep her. How you got that is.....

I was only giving him/her my opinion. He is of course, free to choose whatever.

You said there was nothing good in keeping her; but you do get a unique character hanging around instead of a generic one.

Beyond that, it's only going to be what your character likes, which will vary for each character.

You're right. It depends on the character. My characters wants to invent things to improve lives on the surface. Even making a better soda than Nuka Cola. So with that being the case, Barstow can go. Thank you all! You have helped me make my decision!

Finish the experiment's in Vault 88 Now later in game; Question, Has anyone having an issue of vault 88 just closing game when you enter, I notice it as soon as you do the tasks in Far Harbor DLC(best left forgotten) by access the DiMA's passed memory files game starts glitch and you are no longer aloud enter vault 88. sad its never been fix after all this time.
choice now is never go back to 88 & get nuke codes, windmill codes, super armor,& diMA's murder case. or skip that just finish island basic task.:steamfacepalm:

Back up save to earlier game point then use this Fix: by opal858
open cmd in game ~ completequest dlc03mq04 it will skip & complete task so you can access vault 88
