the game wont boot
before the next gen patch i had a lot of mods installed so that the gaming experience for me was much bigger than it was and i could use different strategies and expand the game further. i stopped playing well before the next gen patch was released. however re-installing the game recently and the game refuses to start. it comes up with the usual screen (start, options, help) i press start and it goes blackscreen for a couple of seconds and then back to steam library. i have already deleted all the mods on all my previous saves, deleted from vortex altogether and also all the mod archives so im at a loss as to what i can do to rectify the issue. even some of my tech wizards dont know why this is happening. was wondering if anybody had the same problem and knows how to fix it so i can play it through. P.S. i haven't uninstalled the game and re-downloaded it since i got rid of the mods completely so im gonna see if that works now and i do intend to use updated mods if i can get the game to work again so any help with that would be greatly appreciated

A complete re-install won't hurt... Just make sure you:

1: uninstall through Steam.
2: Navigate to your Steam directory, find the fallout 4 folder and DELETE IT! (removes any loose files, and mod scripts that are left over.)
3: Navigate to Documents\my games\ and DELETE the fallout4 folder there. (removes the last of left over scripts, especially any f4se scripts)
4: Restart.
5: install fallout 4 through steam - DO NOT get the high res texture pack! Its unoptimized junk and can cause issues.

Make sure you turn Weapon debris to OFF in the configuration files. <- THIS is 95% of the issue.

so i have done all that and am re-downloading the game now, how do i do the final 2 steps of not using the high res texture and weapon debris?
weapon debris is a setting under the settings in the "launcher"

NOT THE INGAME MENU, the launcher.exe from your install folder or ( i assume it loads the launcher when you launch the game from steam...not sure, haven't launched trough steam in ages )

the texture pack is concidered dlc, it will auto install but only activate if allowed

go to the games propperties ( right click on the games title card in steam and select propperties ) >> click dlc >> you can actvate checkboxes now, uncheck the texture pack dlc

the game will now no longer load the high ress texture pack plugin ( despite it being in the folder, but it's not of any concern anymore )

well iv'e done all that, the texture pack isn't showing as DLC so im sopposing i dont have it at all. but the same reoccurs. play > launcher opens > open game > blackscreen > back to steam library and game closes altogether. any other suggestions?

Are you trying to launch an unmodded, entirely vanilla game that has ZERO chance that it's accessing any of those pre-NGU mods in any way? Even if they're just sitting in a folder within the game's section they may be interfering.

Are you attempting to start a NEW game, or using old saves again sitting around?

What mod organizer are you using for prior mods use?

the mod organiser was vortex as i was using mods from nexus
all the old saves have been completely wiped along with the mods, i have manually gone through all my files and completely wiped the mods as well as going into vortex and uninstalling and wiping them from there as well so no saves nor mods are anything to do with it.
im just trying to launch the game at this point, completely vanilla and once i know that i can play the game normally, then i'll slowly start to incorporate updated and safe mods to use from nexus again

I'm pretty sure there's a thing you can do found here,
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3241230342

On the other hand it might be your computer blocking access, so check your firewall and onedrive, etc, to make sure they're not blocking or changing anything.

Also if you've *recently* updated your video card driver, maybe try rolling it back a couple months/releases and see if that changes anything. I think that's listed in the guide somewhere too.
