V.A.T.S. not working when using controller
I have tried with both an xbox1 and a ps4(with and without ds4windows) controller and everything works fine except for V.A.T.S.
Anyone else have this problem and know how to fix it?

Are you sure the game is set to use the button you are using for vats.

Defaults settings for the xbox controller are listed as

A - Activate

B - Open/Close Pipboy

X - Ready Weapon/Reload Weapon (Hold to sheath/holster)

Y - Jump

Start - Pause

Back - Point of View Toggle

RB - Bash/Power Attack/Grenade (hold)

LB - V.A.T.S.

RT - Attack

LB - Aim/Block

LS - Move/Sprint (click)

RS - Look/Sneak (click)

D-Pad - Favorites (A to select Favorite)

According to info found at this link. https://fallout4.wiki.fextralife.com/Controls

Having tried two different controllers we can probably rule out a malfunctioning controller.

This may be one of those cases of how long the LB is held since it shows LB being used for both aim/block and vats.

Unless that is an error on the page as this link shows a different layout.

LT/L2 is Aim/Block. LB/L1 is VATS.

LB needs clicked/tapped, not held down.

I do occasionally switch to a gamepad and TV-monitor for some laid back FO4.

Hold down VATS will force you into VATS even if there is no target in your field of view.

It appears that vats on a controller is like the bash/grenade button on pc keyboards tapping it does one function holding it down activates the other. depending on which xbox layout I linked is the correct one for the games default settings.

I find it very useful because I scan around and locate enemies who are outside my current field of view, in VATS time. Kind of a substitute for not having radar in Survival. I don't feel it's cheaty because a real person would have much better 3D awareness than the game can give you: it gives you a slowly rotating fishbowl view with no peripheral vision or directional hearing.

Also useful to go into VATS if something is about to explode. That's pure cheesing though. :D

Hundreds of hours and I didn't even know you could use VATS without a target...

Is this a thing in FO3/NV too?
