well you could argue that the Centaurs were special mutations that only happened in certain areas.
But then the same goes for super mutants.

I guess bethesda just didnt like the centaur design?

Honestly I have no idea and have been pondering the same thing. Maybe Centaurs are too awkward to navigate the obstacle filled streets of Boston (now that I think about it, I don't remember seeing too many Centaurs within the D.C. ruins although that could just be me remembering wrong).

They were created by The Master in Vault 87 using a concentrated form of Forced Evolutionary Virus, out in the Capitol Wasteland. So from what i can gather they have stayed in that area and have not been migrating.

Centaurs have effectively been replaced with mutant hounds. Hounds are much more nimble and are potentially more dangerous than a lumbering mass of skin that was the centaur.

not saying I don't miss them just a bit, after all having strange mutant creatures is neat but I can live without them for the new enemy

Mirelurk Hunters? I think they are the same enemy under different skin. The mirelurk that spits at you and looks ... real different

They were all over the plac in D.C. Probably went with the newer, slimmer mutants. Clearly having lost so much weight, they had to upgrade to dogs.

you are overthinking it they were probably overlooked or scrapped by Bethe
and yea i was seeing centaurs in DC ruins in F3 quite often on lower levels
on high level they were a lot less frequent

Mirelurks are much more dangerous, so I wouldn't call them the same. You can call almost everything "the same enemy under different skin" if you don't look at stats. Like Supermutants are just humans under different skin.

Centaurs = combination of animals and human created by injection of FEV virus.
Super Mutants = human injected with FEV virus.

I guess Centaurs didn't make sense because if they were combined with human and different type of animals, they wouldn't all look the same.

Mutated dogs makes more sense though, just dogs with FEV virus.

I mean they have same design, spit at you, im sure the reason we dont have cents is because everyone would be like how lazy, same enemy Bethesda. I like the enemy as a mirelurk thing more to be honest. The cents were disturbing

Centaurs were in the original Fallouts too, they just used a different design. There was no real migration involved.

Thats true but they were created in Vault 87.

A little from the wiki.

"The Vault 87 super mutants are obsessed with the preservation of their brand new species. Since they are all sterile, they kidnap humans from all over the Capital Wasteland and bring them to the Vault to be mutated. They had been doing so for nearly 200 years, until their source of FEV started to run out. Because of the shortage of the "green stuff," there are now super mutant bands searching all over the Capital Wasteland for a new source of the virus."

"Like their western counterparts, the Capital Wasteland centaurs were created by infection with the FEV along with the super mutants. Their birthplace, like the super mutants, is Vault 87. "

So for the sake of some cohesion, i think that the Mutants took some of them along on those kidnapping tours and maybe some of the Centaurs got left behind or simply wandered off on thier own, since they are a combination of serveral species(humans/dogs or other types of animals) i highly doubt they were able to create offspring on thier own. Just me theorising(again:).
