Brotherhood of Steel Attacking me.
Hey all, Iam just wondering if this has happened to anyone else in the game. I just got past killing Kellogg and doing the memory quest and the Brotherhgood of Steel showed up flying over and I got the quest to go meet them. Well I decided to wait because I read that Nick doesnt like them so I want to finish the quests with him at the Glowing Sea before I start them. On my way to get my power suite I had stored at the first railroad station near the Red Rocket I killed the ghouls who had returned and then hoped in the suit and before I could even kill all the ghouls a big ass ship came out of nowhere and it said Brotherhood of Steel and the mother ♥♥♥♥♥♥ lit me up and dropped 4 guys in Powersuits and chased me to my nearest settlement. So Iam wondering whats up? Are they hostile until I meet them or did I piss them off? Or do they not like people wearing Powersuits? Id rather not have them dropping in on me like that all the time. Any info is much obliged!

According to this i'd rather have railroad+minutemen as main factions,
I don't want the institute anyways cuz they brainwashed my son when he was young (I think) and hes supporting it now.
BOS looks like douches killing anything for something usefull they find now.
I mean they start shooting you randomely?

I've never been attacked by BOS. Codsworth was after he accidently hit a BOS dude, but they left me alone. I did Glowing Sea with Nick, another time with Danse. I joined the Railroad before BOS and I was sent to find the Railroad by BOS to decode the Courser chip.

I have also jumped into BOS firefights against supermutants, raiders and Gunners and loot both sides. Ran into BOS near Hangman's Alley before joining, and they pretty much just say 'move along' or something or that they're too busy to talk.

I have zero mods. This game, I haven't been able to use Danse as a companion. I did something different, but don't remember what it was. I'm at the Institute now. Haven't looked it up, but apparently from other posts I've read, I will eventually end up with Danse as a companion

As for ghouls, BOS hates them. There is a quest involving ghouls and BOS and they take a very hard line against them.

I've also done the Robotics park, but with Cait and no blowback from BOS. And, as has already been noted, Gunners do hijack BOS vertibirds and attack.

I was doing both Railroad missions and Minutemen the rail road suggested I use the minute men to attack the institute when I delibratly failed infiltrating the Institute. Making both allies in my sight. As for the attack I destoryed the institute with the minutemen and just finished Vanintine's personal mission when I saw Bos fighting mutants. I ignored the finding the Pridwyn mission but completed the helping Danse mission, so anyways I help kill the mutants and spoke to a knight who then told me I was worthless because I was not in the brotherhood then he started firing...I had Nick with me at the time.

I just became enemy with BoS when flying over Boston airport to Prydwen... The reason was I had a power armor T-45 (no helmet) from Quincy, which was considered to be stolen (I don't know why - had to kill Gunner Commander for it)... So I went to Pickman gallery and to railroad secret tunnel, where I slept... I left my armor there and returned to Prydwen - everything was OK this time - no hostilities from BoS.

Another borked thing, is if you destroy the institute with the Minute men, then go to the Pwyden
All the Brotherhood leader has to say to you is, 'cant talk right now I'm busy'. (even though he just stands there doing ♥♥♥♥ all)

I prefer becoming enemies of both the Railroad and the BOS with me leading the institute. The post endgame battle encounters are plentiful and great.

As leader of the Institute I notice I am cheap on guns which must cost more in the long run on synth production. The institute provides the checkpoint synths with little 20dmg pistols against mobs that carry 100dmg weapons.

when I walked to goodneighbour after killing kellog I saw brotherhood and decided that they might protect me from raiders who were chasing me, insteed they killed me and since i was in survival I had to kill kellog again because i didn't save in bed... btw I didn't have nick with me, I had preston, I also captured castle already for some reason... could that make them angry?

I don't think it's mission-related. Myself has noticed that BOS soldiers' behavior to be mercurial, sometimes pacific and sometimes aggressive. It's not really important unless you're on a mission requiring the BOS to be friendly and supportive. If you inadvertently incur their wrath, sleep or sit and wait for three days.

Okay ladies and gentlemen ....
This has never happened to be before or after the Robotics Pioneer Park .. whether the BoS was in the Commonwealth or not.

Mods? Anybody using them?
needfor_pizza May 24, 2020 @ 12:47pm
No mods...they just gunned me down when they saw me... actualy I was on gunner territory and it could have been two gunners who stole brotherhood powerarmor... I didn’t even see the red bar up that shows who is attacking... well it wasn’t probably that, BoS was who gunned me down definitely because i heard a vertybird, IF I’m right you can’t steal brotherhood power armor in combat so it wasn’t gunners
Other way it could have been those raiders chasing me or BoS accidentally shot me while shooting raiders, that could posibly haped? Any way I saw a red laser that hit me... I also saw BoS soldiers who have red laser guns

There IS one other thing I can think of that would cause the brotherhood to attack on sight: Have you stolen (red text = theft or illegal access) and started wearing any BoS power armor? It doesn't matter how long ago you stole it; that you stole it at all from the BoS is a flag to trigger aggressive behavior…whilst wearing the power armor suit¹.

¹ If power armor pieces are in inventory, but you're not currently wearing a frame displaying the stolen pieces, then Brotherhood soldiers won't detect your possession of stolen goods.

Somewhere in this forum, in other threads, this matter has been discussed at greater length, from more authoritative sources. I learned these alleged facts from them. If you have any question in your mind, I'm pretty sure the items would be red-texted in your inventory—the specific circumstances elude me, but I foggily remember experiencing this phenomenon personally.

Using the vanilla power armor targeting hud or those chems that do the same aggros non hostile npc's every now and then making some quests even impossible when using those things. That's what's causing this. Using a modded targeting hud fixes this, some mods are especially made to fix this

Sorry, but I actually found the latter response too difficult to "translate," as it employed too little proper punctuation and too much run-on and prosaic colloquialisms. Too, what I did think I understood, because of the weak syntax, intended impact was too open to a wide variety of interpretations. What you actually mean by "mods" is unclear: You could be referring to using a power armor workstation to MODIFY a helmet piece, or you could mean to refer to some abstruse non-developer-supported game modification (also called "mods" in a game making such modifications widely popular).

I've never heard of any chem that makes NPCs hostile when ingested by the Sole Survivor.

So, color me puzzled.

A vertibird attacked me after i join BoS in a game, and they attack me when i am not joined them, in another game. At second game i was using the first T-45 power armor i can find early in the game.

I'm sorry your highness, my humblest apologies. I hope this is more understandable.

OVERIVEW

The Targeting HUD mod for Power Armor and the Berry Mentats chem both grant an ability to the player that highlights live NPCs, Robots, and Creatures. Anyone in visual range of the player while they have either of these effects will be highlighted with a red-orange glow.

THE PROBLEM

Certain NPCs, particularly those from factions that are neutral and/or potentially hostile to you, will immediately turn hostile and attack the player if they approach while wearing Targeting HUD-equipped Power Armor or under the effects of Berry Mentats. This is due to the way the highlight effect works: internally it is treated as a "magic effect" (since Fallout 4's engine is related to the Skyrim engine), and the AI is set to treat any spell or magic effect from a potentially hostile target as a hostile act.

The only problem I have and always have is the BOS vertibug crashing on top of me, doesnt matter if Im halfway on the other side of the map and I see a vertibug flying, its gonna crash on top of me.
