Can't assign smiling larry
For some reason Smiling Larry is the only merchant I cant get to do anything. I go into the workshop and there's no option to command him. I tried beating the ♥♥♥♥ out of him and resurrecting him so I could get the prompt to send him somewhere but still he wont do ♥♥♥♥. For someone with a name like Smiling Larry you'd think I'd be smiling too, but I'm not.

bumping this because I would like an answer as well...seems just to be a bug considering that the scribe works fine

They have specific shop. Like the vault rep got a specific spot. This merchant also provide legendary items to be barter.

Not sure what you mean? the legendary items are only available if you can assign him to the weapons shop, which as of now is not an option

that doesnt seem to make sense since I can put the scribe to an armor shop and get his stuff. Can't seem to move smiling larry anywhere either

The first time I bumped into him, I got the dialogue to send him somewhere and selected Sanctuary. I had multiple level 3 shops including the weapon shop. Never saw Larry again. I can spawn him in of course, but he does not respond so I left that alone for now.

It's driving me a little crazy though because although I'd like to think he went back to travelling, he could also have gotten stuck somewhere or removed from the game altogether. That would ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ suck. I've heard people had this issue, but they never mentioned seeing him again.

I just had the same problem with Larry, he never showed up in Sanctuary

You can't assign him because he technically isn't a settler yet. Had the same problem with Vault Rep where i couldn't assign him anywhere and i screwed up the dialog to offer him a job (didn't have enough spots in settlement). After realizing that it's the fact that he is not part of my settlement yet and the fact that first i needed to recruit him - i talked to him again multiple times to try bring up the job offer. I only succeeded when i slept for ~20 hours (job offer resets 24 hours after previous one?)

TL;DR he is not your settler yet. Try talking to him. If that doesn't work - sleep for 24 hours and talk to him again.

P.S Where did you find Larry?

Smiling Larry and The Scribe are random encounters.
When I encountered The Scribe I asked him to work for me and he agreed. I have about 11 people at every settlement so there is more than enough. But he still did not show up.
Already have Vault-tec rep and hargrave (who are not random encounters).

Hmm yeah... was aware of random encounters just wanted to know how 'random' they really are. it's possible that they are random within range of locations and certain time of the day.

Was looking at the wiki for Smilling Larry ( http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Smiling_Larry ) and it says the requirement is 30 settlers. Maybe that's the problem?

Also, I really hope that they mean 30 settlers globally and not just at one settlement, because that sounds like its either impossible or a massive pain to accomplish

Ok, so Smiling Larry finally arrived in Sanctuary, i found him taking care of some crops, and i can't assign him to do anything.
He has his normal travelling merchant selling inventory and not the upgraded one.
Does anyone have an idea on how to assign him to the weapon shop ?
Maybe if there was a console command to reset the dialogue of that npc in particular.

nowhere in particular, but I already had him sent somewhere but he wouldnt do anything, but I'll try what you said




EDIT: okay I waited 24 hours and I still cant do anything with him (not even offer him to work for me again)

BTW i have a method for generating random encounters if you are having trouble finding and testing these vendors/bugs.
Fast travel to Grey Garden, then head east to the road, and follow the road southeast to the Cambridge Polymer Labs. It is easy to see which way you should go just by looking at the map.
You should encounter a random event (ghouls, mole rats, scavengers, vendors...) just as you turn the corner to the polymer labs.
