The institutionalized quest is not ending!

I have talked to everyone used the holo tape and I have gotten the serum for Virgel but it still will not let me leave or start the next quest synth retention. The only way I have found to be able to leave is to kill father but I don't want to do that. I could use some help.

I have the same problem. Have been stuck and Googled around for three days now without any result.
I chose Brotherhood of Steel to help me build the teleport thingy, and it seems to be a game breaking bug related to you having two seperate conversations with the same NPC - Dr. Li - and the conversation from the Brotherhood quest "overwriting" the other main quest conversation, the one which you would've been able to teleport in and out of the Institute afterwards.
I have come across alot of bugs in this game sadly, but not anything like this that destroys the ability to continue with the game...

I also did the brotherhood teleporter I found if you kill father you can leave which sucks if you want to be apart of the institute.

Same here. I need to get out but cant. The quest is showing ive done all 3 things but the institutionalized quest isnt completing. Sucks.

I think you miss a thing :D does nothing show up ? I also had to find a part I forgot when I was there, took me a while (20 mins or so) before I actually noticed I needed to go talk to more people.

Nope, not that im aware of, I had all three quest objectives ''complete'', the mission didn't complete though as it was still in my active quest log. Also went and spoke to Doctor Li and grabbed the item for Virgil and the tape for Li, pretty much spoke to everyone i could. In fact, I spent about an hour just trying to get out of the place but there were no quest markers or no fast travel, not a zip.

In the end I loaded a previous save (which was 2 hours prior) - no biggie tbh, could have been worse - god help the folk who have saves like 6 hours+ prior, smh.

Anyway, I ran the quest again and the only thing I done differently (this may help others) was I put the Network scanner holotape into the terminal FIRST before meeting the leaders / talking to Doctor Li etc etc (in the run where i got stuck down there, I done this objective LAST).

I think if it comes to the point where your stuck down there and youve spoke to everyone, got all the items etc, then theres no way out apart from loading a previous save (until they fix it). Some of my mates have done the mission without any issues so culd just be a glitch.

I've heard people who literally just loaded a save before heading in and they done the mission the same and it unlocked the second time no problems at all. I could have well put the holotape in last again and the mission may have triggered anyway, but ill never know. Just glad its done now.

I had this problem on my second play through. I found that if I backed up and did the conversation with Dr.Li differently it fixed the problem and she gave me the courser chip upgrade. If you choose the persuasion dialogue choices and succeed she will join the brotherhood and give you the upgrade allowing you to progress.

It's almost 2018 now and this bug is still out there, I also chose the Brotherhood for the teleporting thing, talked to all the leaders, and Dr Li is now off to The Commonwealth to rejoin the Brotherhood, no way to change dialogues with her, all subquests are ticked, but mission doesn't end...

if it happens on consoles you're screwed, just like it'd happened to me...

The best thing to do before anything is to get your Charisma to Max, and Female "Lady killer" to Max. before you talk to most of the females in the game, this way if they give you red dialogue you can pretty much get them to agree to anything. In Doctor Li's case you need her to join the Brotherhood she is very reluctant but if you persuade her she will even if there is a red dialogue, she will reluctantly do so and give you the upgrade which allows you to teleport from there to any location and back at will. You will need to talk to all five doctors prior to completing the scenario.
