institute network scanner tape options help (spoilers)
Spoilers ahead!

Alright, so i have gotten to the institute and found my son. That's nice, and i would look to join the course. however i can't complete the quest where i have to meet the leaders without back strapping the institute. I apparently HAVE to install the spyware Network Scanner holotape given to me by the brotherhood of steel. Can't i avoid it? I see purpose in what they are doing.

You don't have to do it if you're gonna side with the institute, but I think you may have have to do it if you are gonna side with the brotherhood. You can change what quest are active in data section of the pipboy if that is the problem you are running into.

I do have the guest father gave me active. It says that i need to "use the network scanner". When i used it i could talk to farther again. I reloaded the save before talking to him, because i don't want that to backfire.

It doesn't matter if you use it as long as you don't give it to the BoS.

Wait, maybe it's because i said to some of the leaders i was suppose to talk to that i was undecided about joining. I was still taking the plot twist in. Maybe i should reload an earlier save right before entering the institute to begin with and start over. This time convinced to join from the start. I'll have to try that tomorrow.

I have tried again and this time agreed to everyone i talked to in there. I still have to use the tape. But given Theevilnoobs info, i'll just not use it.... or maybe this is a good thing. I can keep my options open and make a decision down the line when i gather more info.

One thing that is odd though, is that i HAVE to try and convince Doctor LI to rejoin the BoS. Odd.

Anyways, thanks for your help guys

I know that is annoying that you have to at least attempt to convince doctor Li if you get the brotherhood help in building the teleporter.
