Do you have anything in the background popping windows or changed the focus state.

I find in some menus my mouse pointer will wander away from the game into the desktop of my second screen. Plus my screen saver minimizes the game. I'm running the game in fullscreen.

Nothing I know of for it but to wait for patches.

Absolutly nothing running in background, no biggy, not a huge deal.

If you play in fullscreen and dont use a 2nd monitor, AND the game randomly minimizes, you do indeed have something running in the background. And that something is taking focus away from the game. The question is what is it? Try to run a virus scanner, ccleaner and/or spyware S&D. Some viruses/malware have this focus stealing effect.

This is the only game that has ever done this...and I play a LOT of games and never once had this "issue" It does it in Full Screen and Windowed (Borderless) Will try to see if its a virus nonetheless.

Another thing I found when researching this issue is that Fallout 3 and New Vegas had the same issues at first for some users...interesting....another Bethesda typical bug? Still my favorite game development company though.

Not only one with this issue as well.

For me this was happening in windows 10, the cause was a scheduled task called OfficeBackgroundTaskHandlerRegistration. Open Scheduled Tasks, expand Task scheduler Library, Microsoft, Office, and disable the task.

This happens to me when I play No Mans Sky. Occasionally will happen when I play skyrim. Just random alt tabs about every 10 to 20 min.

There are a lot of possible reasons for it. I used to have the issue in some games back in windows 7 but I forget what I did to resolve it. Likely to be a different task/program for each person.

some program thinks it is more important than the game; usually the antivirus/antimalware

I just started having this same problem. It is also happening when I played the Sims 3 which is not on Steam. It started after I updated my Nvidia graphics drivers earlier this month. I installed another update yesterday that came out on the 21st and it seems to help. But I don't know for sure if that was it. I'll update this post after I play today.

Update: Well, after playing for six hours I did not have the closing problem. But, now I have a new problem. The game freezes and then will not close out. Even ctrl-alt-del doesn't do anything. I have to restart the computer. It happened twice. Damn, I hate updates.

Same issue, but I find it happens more often if I right click to use scope and hit alt to steady the shot. Ran virus and malware scanners, only thing running was norton, tried turning of norton, no fix. Its exactly like I hit Alt Tab and brings up the miniview in the center.

Could be some offending program you have that runs in windows. For me, this game never did it before. Then suddenly this week I went to revisit it and soon as I'd open the game it'd go to desktop. Took me a while to realize it was alt-tabbing and not crashing. Then I began to wonder, wtf changed on my computer? I had just moved into a new house and had a weekend of no internet. What did I install? Used my phone to save and transfer Samsung's SideSync program so I could control my phone from my PC. Why? So I could have Netflix dragged over to the large TV I use as a second monitor and kick back and still watch my Netflix without using a tiny phone screen. Damned SideSync was doing something that forced this game to alt+tab literally the second the game opened up. Soon as I got rid of SideSync, the problem quit for me. Looks like I'll have to keep SideSync from automatically starting with Windows, and close it down soon as I'm done with it. Almost a moot point now since I have internet at home again and don't even need that for what I wanted it for.

It may not be specifically SideSync in anyone else's case for what is forcing your game to alt+tab on its own. But I'll bet it's an offending program running somewhere in Windows for you still. Might want to try experimenting around with closing down some other stuff you have running to see if they are the culprit.

This just happened to me and I fixed it on windows 10 by going into windows notification settings from the desktop and turning off every notification, and also going into focus assist and setting everything I could not turn off to priority only.

Hope this helps some of you out there. Seems this issue has a different cause for almost everyone.

I had this happen and it was a very easy fix for me. Close any running Razer software if you are using any Razer branded hardware (mouse soundbar etc). That was causing the alt tabbing and i did not have to make any major changes.
