Switching between Keyboard/Mouse and Controller?
So i have a Controller plggued in and whenever i start fallout i can only use the Controller for moving around (keyboard is working though i can open the consol for example).
But i want to move and shoot with keyboard and mouse and use the controller for things like building a settlement and so on.
But i can't switch between controller and keyboard on the fly unlike in many other games where i just have to press a key on the keyboard and it switches to the keyboard or touch a button on the controller and it switches to that.

Is there a key i have to press to switch or does the game just not allowe it?

Did you manage to find a solution? Having the same problem. The controller is great for walking around but in combat the mouse makes a difference.

No seems like the only solution is to unplugg the controller and use mouse and keyboard for everything

You could just go into options and switch controller on and off, but if you don't feel like using up like 5 seconds of your time I guess there is no option until someone makes a mod.

Easiest thing so far is turning the controller off by pulling on the battery pack a bit. Not idea but still easier than going into settings.

Don't understand why they didn't add a on the fly switch. Pretty much every Game has it, hell even some F2P Games can do that but a Triple A Game can't?

Same reason some commands are hard-coded. Laziness. "Ambition" at Bethesda is part of their "sarcastic" dialogue.

This is a 2015 AAA game, we shouldn't have to take up 5 seconds of our time when Bethesda could've just as easily done their jobs.

Considering that I found this using Google and thus relevant, this can be done by Buffout 4

Use Buffout 4's "InputSwitch = true# Automatically swaps inputs between kb+m/controller" setting instead. You'll find this line in "config.toml" file under the "Text File" tab. Works a treat, hope this helps!

C&P from a reply to a comment by fruityscone from nexus, it should still work.

Buffout 4 currently does not work with the updated game.

This is what currently works:

  • If keyboard&mouse are not working then unplug any controller, racing wheel, and joystick, reboot Windows, and try again. An advanced keyboard with an integrated controller and mousepad can confuse the game. Switch to a standard keyboard and mouse combination. Further check Fallout4Prefs.ini for:
    [General] ... bGamepadEnable=0
Set this value to 0 (null) to disable controller support and to enable keyboard&mouse, or, to 1 to enable controller support and to disable keyboard&mouse.

That depends on which mod guide you follow, personally I follow the Midnight Guide one and with the downgrader thing they suggest, it still works.

But strictly on a vanilla basis, shouldn't it be easier just to rely on the in-game settings option?

I use a USB hub with on/off switches for each USB port. So easy to turn my controller on or off.

Some cannot access the in-game option when this happens. Hence do I point out the .ini file setting.
