Fallout 4 broke my Xbox 360 controller

So I was playing Fallout 4 with an Xbox 360 controller (wired usb) on pc. I've had no issues for the past 60 hours or so of my playtime.



The controller is a couple of months old, and I've never had any issues with it. I own two Xbox 360 controllers (wired usb) and I use them for various games on PC.



Anyway, what happened is:



playing Fallout 4, somewhere in Central Boston, and the game crashes to desktop. Fair enough. It's only the second time its happened in 60+ hours. But. My controller must have been vibrating just before the crash (I was in combat).



So im on my desktop. The controller is still vibrating. I check task manager, nothing related to Fallout 4 is still running. The controller is still vibrating.



So I unplug the controller from my usb port. It's not vibrating anymore (obviously).



From here on whenever I plug the controller in, it either is unresponsive or continously connects/disconnects/reconnects.



I check my drivers, up to date. I test my other xbox 360 controller. It's completely fine. I even try different games, and play for a few hours. No difference. One controller is unresponsive, the other is fine. I try other USB ports and also changing the wires at the end of the cord of the xbox controllers. Makes no difference.



Tried uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers > no change.



I restart the computer, test everything again (uninstall/reinstall drivers, try different games etc.).



The controller still is having the same issues. Meanwhile the spare controller is working optimally (they are both the same type of controller, official msoft xbox 360 wired).

It seems that the controller I was using now has a hardware issue after that CTD and rumbling for a bit (must have been 30 seconds to a minute)



Weird. Fair enough. ♥♥♥♥ happens.



Just hope this hasn't happened to anyone else.



My solution: luckily I have a spare controller. The other one is now going to sit in a drawer for a while.

is there a reset button on the controller? i know the ps3 ones have its like a small pin hole if not then you will need to reflash the firmware somehow

It's done the same thing to my Razer Onza wired X-box 360 controller. Going to be borrowing a wireless controller from a roommate, since I don't have a backup. I've gotten the controller to work again for a short period, but then it went dead again and gives me a hardware error when plugged in. *sigh*
