What fixed it for me was disabling autosave features and not quicksaving right before travelling/entering a building. The game crashed on average, 5-10 times every play through, now I rarely have that problem, unless I quicksave by accident.

I will try this as well because this problem annoys the heck out of me.

Guide to stay clear of the glitch:

1. Go into the game and type "coc qasmoke" in the console
2. From there, type "coc redrocketext"
3. Get every important thing from red rocket just in case.
4. Use the coc command to go to qasmoke again, then go somewhere else.*

*You can also just walk southeast from red rocket.

I can get to qasmoke but then I get booted when I type coc redrocketext

Hey there, not sure if anyone plays this anymore but I found a workaround for this that seems to work... This seems to affect the settlements only from what I can tell. After reloading fom exitsave, fast travel to nearest map point to you want to go. Walk there and be sure to access the work bench build menu. You'll probably need to do this for all of your settlements. - After that fast travelling to them seems to be ok for a while. (Seems to be tied in to inventory items gathered) Anyway, hope that helps someone.

That worked for my brother. Thanks for the suggestion!

*Edit: The game crashed after pressing tab a few times and now it crashes again when he fast travels.

I hate my life

I'm having this problem right now, but instead of loading an old save, I deleted all my prior saves thinking that would help

Edit: Found a potential workaround.
So whenever I was fast traveling out of Sanctuary, the game would crash, but after a bit of testing, I discovered that I could fast travel from locations that were not within the vicinity of Sanctuary.

If anyone else is having this specific problem, you should theoretically be okay, as long as you stay outside the area of any nearby settlements. A good rule of thumb is to make a circle, the center being Sanctuary, the radius being from Sanctuary to Red Rocket. Place that circle around any other settlement, and NEVER BE IN THERE.

I had the exact same problem.. Yes. Around 4 years late, but I disabled Unnofficial Fallout4 Patch and for some random reason the problem did not occur anymore

I found an exact MOD that caused this issue by eliminating all mods and slowly adding them back to test the area with each one until 1 caused the CIT/polymer labs fast travel/area crash to desktop. "Magazines of the Commonwealth" on nexusmods. There may be others that cause it, but if you have this mod or any other texture mods, try to disabling them first and see if that helps. Cheers!

This thread seems to be 5 years old at least, yet this is still happening to myself and a few others, i have actually found two ways to fix this, 1) would be to download the unofficial patch mod (if you're worried about your achievements, you could always install the achievement enabler mod) but even this sometimes doesn't work, so far the only sure-fire way I've found is to press the win key to pull back to your desktop screen with fallout still open in the background and waiting until you hear all sound cut and then going back into the game from the pin bar.

I've been getting this issue from fast travelling to the Prydwen from listening post bravo in the Blind Betrayal quest, any guaranteed fixes that don't include downloading a mod or putting in console commands? I don't want to restart the quest just to fix a stupid bug.

try alt tabbing as you go to fast travel,i found that doing that lets me fast travel without crashing as im not technically in game

If it is only fast travels, I fixed the issue on my side, it is not Fast travel but autosave that comes just after that usually crashes even on vanilla game.

To fix that :
Settings > Gameplay > Save on Travel = OFF

Remember to manually save your game

Mate, it's 5 AM, and i've just passed almost 1 hour trying to find what was crashing the game, fast travelling especifically in the sanctuary hills area, but man, all of the things i've read, in the sim settlers mod that's a mod that i don't even have, this entire thread that dates back from ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ 2015, your idea of just alt+tabbing was the dumbest out of all of them, so i tried and i didn't expected to work, BUT IT ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ DID, so yeah man, thx
