Ammo disappearing bug?
I'm having a bug where all of my .45 ammo just vanishes randomly. I'll be going along, try to fire and I have no ammo. Reload my last save, I have over 800 rounds, then it just poofs. No idea when or how.

Yup, got a similar glitch. Was trading with Rowdy in the Atom Cats Garage. Later found all my rounds gone. Found that they had magically travelled into her inventory without me ever selling them. Bought em back (Spending all my caps) and it happens again! Now I can't even buy them back! Bethesda seriously needs to fix this bug.

It happened to me with 5.56 ammo, everything disappeared that was in my inventory and my workshop. Also the 2 traders in town (1 of which is a weapon/ammo dealer didn't have any 5.56 in stock.

Hmm, I'm thinking some of the NPC traders are thieves.

I have had to buy back guns I value very much and had renamed and are marked
as favorites n my inventory.
What has happened on perhaps 3 occasions now is.
Go up to a trader (in my case I use a couple shops in my settlement) and sell
misc garbage to them for coin. Of course being caerful to NOT sell stuff I want to keep.

I'll hit sell , and noted at some point later I had managed to sell one of my weapons or more than one.

I do not play drunk, I have no idea how this is happening.
In two of the cases I had to re-purchase the items they 'stole' as I had not
made a save game recently enough to bother going back in time.

In the future I now tend to do a quicksave before dealing with these thieving bastar ds.
bastards

Just had it happen to me, all my .44 ammo vanished. Uzi{OTG} is right, for some reason it was all placed in the nearest vendor's inventory (store). I didn't even interact or approach the merchant, we were merely in the same cell. First real bug I encountered (if not counting the occasional levitating corpse and visual hicups).

Lever action rifles do not appear in my inventory, but they still weigh me down.

I've just had it where all my ammo for ALL my guns straight up disappeared.

I am using mods, but this is my normal setup and it's never happened before.

EDIT: I just checked. I have 7/999 rounds in my presently equipped gun(if I swap, it all disappears), I can't reload. I fire, can't reload. Once I fire all my rounds it drop to 0/0. If I open and close my pipboy, I also drop to 0/0.

This is just a very wild guess. But maybe unload some ammo so that the numbers you are carrying are 'reasonable'. The game could be choking on numbers too big.

This is a topic with only a handful of replies starting from 2015. It's clearly not a big enough issue that anyone went about finding a solution.

I'd hedge my bets on console command use or mods, because that's right a good 97% of the time.
Drop all your ammo from your inventory and pick them up again , this works for me

So I had the same problem. Ammo says 0 on weapon but 256 in inventory. What DID work was transferring it to something like a lunch box or perhaps any other container. I actually transferred all my ammo tham seconds later transferred it all back. Problem solved.

modded or not modded?
1, If modded check load order and make sure nothing is conflicting with each other by using loot and creating a merge patch with f4edit.
2, If not modded it'll be a render glitch where it trys to render the ammo in your inventory and has a script error and removes it. (fix= Get the Unofficial Fallout 4 Patch mod from nexus) It'll fix alot of bugs with fallout 4. It doesn't change the game or anything like that just fixes alot of issues with the game.
