Why play on a harder difficulty? I mean really?
I found myself for 7/10th of my play time on the very hard difficulty and after I found out the XP gain doesn't scale with difficulty I brought it down a few notches.

My question for this discussion is this;

Why bother?

I find myself just discarding most "legendary" items because my crafted guns and armour and almost double the damage and armour ratings.

As I can deduce from my findings is, The harder the difficult the more ammo you throw away.

So I'm asking you guys, What is the point playing on a higher difficulty?

I play on survival mode and the game still is too ez.
There needs to be a mod that weakens power armor.

more legendary enemy spawns = more legendary item drops.

You encounter more legendary enemies on harder difficulties, which means you get more xp and more sellable loot.

By contrast, in New Vegas, it just makes everything a bullet sponge, so I typically only play on hard-hardcore. (Project Nevada totally reballances it and makes very hard playable without having to use 5 clips into a dog's face to kill it. Mostly by adjusting all enemy stats, instead of just hp.)

Why weaken power armor? Just dont use it. I beat the game without using power armor once, aside from the start mission.

That feeling when you finally pull through tough situation using every ounce of your resources, is why I play on the hardest setting. Place mines, take custom-chems you brewed, eat some rare food you cooked out of a giant mirelurk queen, equip the weapon and armor you kept in tip-top shape, etc.

Bullet sponges are a pretty big challenge!

i like whatever difficulty it defaulted to, it povides a challenge while i get enough freedom to use armour that looks good rather than has max stats. (for example no helmet)

because it's more difficult. I don't understand your original post here - are you noting that "very hard" is only making the game more difficult and not making you gain more XP?

The point of difficulty isn't for faster XP gain, it's for making the game more difficult... for fun.

I'm playing on survival and nearly every encounter I have is epic due to that. I'm not doing it for quicker XP gain, better loot, etc.

Survival Mode is still very easy. Once you establish I good weapon and learn how to use it (no V.A.T.S), and have decent armor you will slice through enemies. If you happen to have a companion the game doesn't add to the difficulty, which it should.

Survival mode needs to be reworked.

Bullet sponges are a pretty big challenge!

It's not like the enemies are just standing there, they are charging and attacking you the entire time... not sure what you mean by bullet sponge in this instance.

Bullet sponges are hard. Healing for less, when you already heal over time, is a challenge. You are what is wrong with gaming today.

They shoot and move on very easy too. You're not making your case any better.
