Persuasion Dialogue

I have rank 6 Charisma and have rank 2 Lady Killer, a perk I've had for a long time. I always try the yellow dialogues when they pop up, but after ~15 hours of gameplay and reaching level 18 I have yet to pass a single speech check.
Is there something dodgy with the persuasion dialogue choices, or something that I'm not understanding? When I say I've passed none that isn't hyperbole, I've literally yet to persuade a single person.

When an option comes up in dialog, forcefully look away from the person until you break free of the speech cinematic, then save, then look back and try the option.

Also helps to wear CHR buffing clothing during dialog.

probably just bad luck, I also have 6 CHA and rank 2 lady killer; I've never failed a yellow dialogue option (never tried any orange ones or above)

Or just quicksave in the middle of dialogue, no need to look away.

Also, OP, if you want to succeed a Charisma check just talk to Codsworth after leaving the Vault. With 6 Charisma I have never failed the check he provides.

Pretty sure you can't fail the Codsworth persuasion. It's a tutorial.

The perk only works against the opposite sex. So the female version of it is better since most NPCs and enemies tend to be male.

It's random chance, basically. You could pass a red charisma check with the same charisma you'd fail a yellow check. Colors indicate a general % of likelihood to pass, but that still means you can fail it.

AFAIK, you need 11 Charisma to pass all speech checks (IIRC, with 10 Charisma you'll still fail the red checks 14% of the time). You can make Grape Mentats with with 2 Hubflowers, 1 Mentats, and 1 Whiskey which will boost your Charisma by 5. There are also clothing that improves Charisma. Black-rim Glasses, fashionable glasses, militia hat, newsboy cap, destroyer's helmet, lieutenant's hat, minuteman general's hat, formal hat, trilby hat, Grandpa Savoldi's hat, tuxedo, and the green shirt and combat boots each increase Charisma by 1 and you can wear glasses with hats. Red Dress, sequin dress, summer shorts, and blue suit increase Charisma by 2. Reginald's suit and Agatha's dress increase Charisma by 3 and you get them after a side quest. Day Tripper (+3), X-cell (+2), and many alcoholic drinks (+1) also boost Charisma.
