Turrets in Covenant
[minor spoilers for a sidequest]

UPDATE: this thread got surprisingly popular so I'm taking down the original questions and just putting up the solutions I've decided to go with. These are solutions for most of the ownership problems that arise when you kill everyone in covenant and take control of the town.

The setownership console command seems to solve most problems in this town. Using it on beds makes followers able to use them, and using it on containers makes it not count as stealing when you take things out of them. This command has no arguments; just click on a setpiece, type setownership, hit enter, and it's yours.

As for the turrets, which are the main issue here, I've discovered in other settlements that setownership doesn't make them count towards settlement defenses nor does it make them able to be moved. Your best bet is to just destroy them (or use the markfordelete command if you don't want to deal with permanent turret explosion junk since nothing despawns at settlements) and rebuild them yourself. I know people have said it doesn't matter since they still shoot at enemies, but they don't count as defense points and there's been reports of them randomly targeting non-enemies, so honestly it's not worth it to keep the originals.

On a non-glitch related note, covenant has a lot of pre-war assets that the workshop doesn't recognize, and therefore can't be deleted. If you want to clear out space for something but can't get rid of the furniture, the markfordelete command will erase any asset you target once you reload the area.

Problem 1: The turrets don't transfer to your ownership after taking Covenant. This means they don't count to your settlement's defense stat which causes further problems down the line and brings up the question of whether they will turn hostile if you do something they don't like. Yes they will still kill enemies for you but in my opinion? hold E in workshop mode, remove them from their pedestals, set them up facing a wall and destroy them. Then replace them with your own which will then count towards the settlemen'ts defense. Another option is to risk it and leave them up and put in your own as well to up the settlement's defense.

Problem 2: There are other items/ beds/ doors which don't transfer to your ownership either. This means that it will still come up as stealing an item when you go to pick it up/ doors will autolock after hours and the beds will show as owned meaning you can't sleep in them. If deezer sees you stealing, he will take the item off you. If a companion sees you stealing it will affect your relationship with them.

Both could do with a quick patch.

Yeah after posting my question I went to Covenant and tried to move my 2 turrets in the back up front and the turrets I placed attacked them and killed em. So I reloaded and just left them there.

As far as Problem 2 I have had my settlers and 2 companions attack me because I picked up something that was not flagged as mine. I just run away and come back in a few days and everything's OK, although I guess Preston will prolly never like me! I took down the locked doors so my settlers could access the beds inside so no problems there. at least you can use the other beds in the other house that were offered to you before you killed everyone there.

EDIT: I agree that they should try to fix these problems but I'm sure it will be far down on the list, maybe months down the road.

Slight update on where Im at- I decided to keep the turrets and had the same problem as you with one attacking the other, so i've kept the others i've put in close to the wall so they can't see each other. Then I was doing some work on covenant at night and it was raining. Creepiest thing ever, one of the turrets on the back wall spun all the way round and just started firing on Dora the cat. Killed her. There are no settlers here yet so I'm just stood alone in the middle of the court yard surrounded by turrets staring at this dead cat.

Idk if you saw my update in the original post but you can fix problem 2 with a very simple console command. And really I think you place way too much importance on the turrets actually attacking enemies. If they don't count towards your settlement's defense and they have wonky ownership/alliances, it's really more advantageous to get rid of them and rebuild them.

As of December 11th this is still an issue. I have discovered a rather handy fix for console users. Place the turrets on the small rug where Swanson gave you the test. Move the rug and goodbye turret. I'm sure this works on any rug. Do not however place the turret on any nonmoveable rug.
You can move the turrets by holding the usual pickup button.

Edit: this seems to work for only a few turrets.
Edit2: storing the rug when it does not make the turret disappear should remove the turrets

well console users shouldn't be looking for help in the forums for the pc version, should they

Fair point, but searching bugs for fallout usually points to the steam forums

Ok might have foudn out the "bug" i lef the existing turrets, it seems they are still counted as hostile because if you palce your own tower it starts shooting it
Road King Jan 20, 2016 @ 1:34pm
An issue with leaving the turrets... I built a new turret, and it was immediately shot up by the existing ones.

I also noticed that if I tried to pick up and move the dead bodies - just to neaten the place up - trying to move the mayor (forgot his name) results in me getting attacked by all the residents.
A Simple Pigeon Jan 20, 2016 @ 6:03pm
@Road King that's exactly why you should just get rid of all the existing turrets. Also how did you kill the mayor and NOT have to kill all the other residents, too? I think they're attacking you because moving a dead body counts as stealing or something, you should honestly just kill them, they serve no purpose after the quest afaik

I haven't been able to play due to low end laptop, but the link above shows a way to remove the turrets. No knowledge on if it still works
mandene Mar 28, 2016 @ 9:18am
It's become worse.

I can't remove the turrets the conventional way (the old bug). And, what's even "funnier" - I can't create new turrets. AT ALL! (And yes, I have all the resources needed). I can create pretty much anything else, just not turrets. (And yes, it's only turrets in Covenant - I can make turrets in other places) :(
