What level should I be to clear the Castle for a settlement?
I plan on rerolling and then having a bunch of little settlements but i want the Castle as my main base of operations because it overlooks the city and is a great view.

What level should I be at minimum to make it over there and clear out all those mireluks and the queen?

So ..ugh..level 30? I know that the Gamma Guns are good against those mireluk mobs and I got those around level 14. Think i'd stand a chance at that level?

I am not sure what level I was, but I pretty much did the settlement questline first before doing any other quests. I was probably below level 10 at that time. Difficulty hard. Not sure about higher difficulties. But the rocket launcher and flamethrower you find there is pretty effective, also you can hide in the castle to not get hit by the queen. So higher difficulty probably just means you need more ammo.

I did it at level 16, power armour + a shotgun to the face (playing on normal). Went in unprepared as i didnt look it up before hand and still did fine. Just hide indoors when healing/using drugs

I was 12 I think...maybe 13. It's about figuring it out. What I love about this game is it benefits my style of more tactical play. I never use VATS, and I took her down with some mines, molotov cocktails, and the Institue focused rifle.

you can do it at level 12

there is ''codviniently'' a missile launcher in the castle...

I haven't gotten around to the castle yet myself yet, but a laser musket does good damage to mirelurks as long as you are not hitting their shell. One shots them from a sneak attack sometimes even when you hit the shell.

I admit mine is 4 crank (but you can get it 3 Crank without any Science perk), but in small numbers it can handle mirelurks well in about two or three hits to the torso. Sometimes one if lucky. When you are getting rushed by a lot is another story.

I have a decently upgraded normal laser rifle (burning type reciver), that''s got as good a damage listing as my Musket. But the Big Deal with the musket is it deals all that damage in one shot, so a "normal" Laser gun is dealing with the full damage resistance every hit, while a Laser Musket only has to deal with resistance once, and piles on the rest of that damage then and there. (Every crank stacks the damage number)

On that note... Preston is total garbage at hitting anything. I've literally blown the legs off a ghoul and waited for him to kill them and they couldn't, they only accidentally killed it because their 6th shot ignited a nearby car.

i just thrw about 10 or so motolovs at it and let my companions do most the work.
I liberated that castle when I was well below level 20. unless you have a paticular play style that requires certian perks to be effective, you don't really need to be a higer level. just take your power armor and lots of ammo for a mini gun and your set. if you drop several land mines down in the path the mirelurk queen uses to reach the castle, it will just about wipe her health to zero.

Wish I could give you an answer but when I finally got to the castle I had X-01 power armor, Fully upgraded Synth armor, and tons of 150+ damage weapons along with Cait in her X-60 power armor with a nice automatic shotgun(she rarely used).

Hard to tell how hard a place is when you can one shot all of those crab things lol.
