It's useless when you can just use the Combat rifle instead.
WHat is worse is that you find them everywhere, even in placed that are supposed to be sealed since pre-war... why would anyone have a pipe weapon in a safe before the war started?
I agree, but If used right, you can have a fully upgraded .50/.45 rifle within an hour of playing the game.

Pipe guns are supposed to be akin to 'zip guns', a replacement for a world where pre-war arms may be a bit more rare. But you find them in ruins untouched by scavvers or raiders since before the war... why? I like that they tried to make crude/primitive guns to balance out the pre-war armaments, but theres just so damn many of them and theres really no difference in appearance between them. Mass-produced pipe/zip guns should look crude as hell, but NOT identical. I'm eagerly awaiting Bethesda releasing proper modding tools so we can see some more diversity in gun skins or just weapons altogether.
