Ultra-Light vs Deep Pocketed
As the title suggests, I'm curious as to which is better. Like most of you, I imagine, I spend half my time encumbered and I'm weighing the advantages of Ultralight vs Deep Pocketed for carry capacity. I'm told that Ultralight has an effect on stealth, as lighter armor means sneakier, but I'm trying to get solid numbers on how much of a change that makes on weight alone.

Depends how much the weight takes off.

The deep pocket limbs = +10 cap. Body = +20 Cap.

Compare it and do the maths, it might be different for different armours.

As for weight, it may not be the case due to the option to actually put a stealth enhancement on most armours with the "shadowed" mod.

If you're sneak level is maxed, you don't generally need an ultra-weight shadowed armor unless you like the +AP it gives.

Since I can run while encumbered and use fast travel I don't take either. If I had to choose between the two though I'd just take more inventory space. You might be able to find better answers on google. I'm sure by now someone has written up an article about it. I'd be surprised if they hadn't.

As I recall you lose the deep pocketed bonus when in PA. But the weight of the armour should remain the same?

quick test confirms this to be the case.

I did a test ware i added the modifiers to my synth chest piece and compared carry weight.
With deep pockets i had 166/350 witch gives me 184 free.
With ultra light i had 160/330 witch gave me 170 free.
So deep pocketed is better if you want carry weight however the AP from ultralight is also useful.

Did you check if that worked out the same with Powered Armor?

Oh oh, you totally forgot about Shadowed effect if you're doing Ultra-Light, have Shadowed with it. You'll have yourself some stealth armor.

The first response sums it up, really.

If the total weight of the armor is more than Deep pockets would give, deep pockets.

If the total weight of the armor piece is less than what Deep Pockets would give, Ultra light.

I forget how heavy the "Heavy" combat armor is, for example. But I know regular combat armor you are better off with Deep Pockets for hoarding and carring 10 different guns (I have 4 strength, I should know).

Adjust to functional desires taste. If you love using sniper scopes, then you would be much better off with the arm mods that improve your scope stability, for example.

Ultra-Light is better. Also, the weight of your equipped items effects stealth in this game with no way to disable the check for it, so the lighter your gear, the better - if you favour sneaking. Otherwise I'd just go with Dense, because the only thing that'll be able to hurt you at the higher end of the spectrum are explosives.

Forget Deep Pocketed. Once you get Strong Back Rank 3 and 4 you'll never need anything but rapid AP refresh speed again concerning carry weight.
ImHelping Nov 24, 2015 @ 8:29pm
Or, you know. use both. Deep pockets stacks with strong back. A deep pockets set of armor is +60 carry capacity, minus the weight of your armor itself.

I'd be able to start bringing heavy weapons along with my10ish assorted guns and explosives! (I have 4 strength. Because im too busy grabbing a million other perks even at level 28).

I value the extra AP much more since I have jet pack on my power armor and use V.A.T.S. alot.

If you wear Power Armor all the time, then Ultra-Light is best. Since the bonuses of reguar armor (including Deep Pocket carry) are removed when wearing Power Armor with the exception that the weight reduction from Ultra Light is still applied.

The difference is 14. That isn't even one extra rifle. I go with ultra light for the AP bonus. When I am encumbered I am usually hundreds over and picking up everything in sight anyway.
