Was Fallout ever a tabletop RPG?
Before it came to computers?

iirc games like Shadowrun were tabletop RPGs before it came to SNES and subsequently the latest revival, etc.

Yes, it was PnP, but I don't recall the name of the system anymore. They lost the license to the system and had to change it, so S.P.E.C.I.A.L. came to be.

The first game almost settled for a tabletop RPG system but adopted homegrown S.P.E.C.I.A.L instead.

No. Probably the closest thing to it would have been Gamma World, but it lacks the 1950s design, etc. I used to play this back in 1980 or so.

Edit: I stand corrected. Thanks Merdakah, didn't know that.

I wish they went back with table top when you build a settlement :(

No, Fallout video game was inspired by Wasteland video game, never tabletop.

GURPS is a pretty close system.

Gurps would be fairly similar to the original fallout

Oh that's cool, so there is a PnP fallout-esque system, but not an actual PnP fallout game.

Thanks, it was Gurps that was originally licensed for the first Fallout. That fell through for some reason. So they went with SPECIAL, which actually sounds a lot better than Gurps. (I always associated the sound of it with hearthburn.)

Actually there was a fallout table top game in the works after the first, and possibly second game was published. It was about 99% done and nearly ready to be pushed out when there was a lisenceing dispute with Interplay and the company that was making the game so it was canceled. However the company that made the game said "nuts to this!" and had decided that they had put so much time into developing the system that they were still going to publish the game. They renamed it to Exodus, and changed some of the terms around in it. If you ever get a chance to look at a book for it it is pretty funny seeing their nock off Vault Boy. If you do enough searching around you could easily find some PDFs for the games books. The game is so old and no one cares about it enough to stop it being traded around via PDFs.

Yes- well, kind of. Not before it came to PC, but afterwards.

There was a tabletop combat game ruleset called Fallout: Warfare released with the collector's edition of Fallout: Tactics.

Rules can be found here.[img2.wikia.nocookie.net]
