is the castle a decent settlement?
it looks like it's going to be hard as hell to put up some decent walls and defenses.. not that it's actually important in this game.. i have the red rocket garage walled off and it's good enough for me.. only my followers who i've coralled into there are stuck in one pile and won't move lol

Castle pretty much has all the walls built for you. Just a few gaps to fill in. I read one article that said to build all your shops there and turn it into a walmart :steamhappy:

the settlers AI is pretty much non existent (and how i wish they would properly get a job) .. but other than that.. ya the Castle is a pretty damn impressive settlement (and its easy to defend.. just fill in the holes in the wall)

Just took the castle. Set up radio. Blocked entrances/breached walls with guard stations & Machine guns. I have only ONE Minuteman in the settlement at the moment.
Questions
1. Does the radio draw other Minutemen/settlers or do I have to make a beacon just like all the other settlements?
2. Can attackers just run up the piles of debris to the wall tops of the fort & jump into the courtyard? If so can one mine the perimeter?
3. Will it be possible to use artillery to protect other settlements? Or will it kill settlers, just like real artillery causes collateral damage?

1 other minuteman show up. Get a settler recruitment transmitter set up.

2 just build shack foundations in the floors selection to block up the holes and it'sd fine. The item build limit is pretty small.

3artillery range is about 5 squares on the map. You can build artillery at other settlements. Not sure if you can bombard other settlements.

You have to build another radio recuritement beacon in order to get other minutemen, the radio tower just gives you new minutemen missions.

Yes, the attackers can climb up the derbis at the walls and you can set settlers to watch the perimeters via guard posts, other than that they will usually wonder up and warn you of upcoming attacks.

Artillery will not be fired if it will land on settlers, you can build other artillery in various other settlements that you can use your workbench at.

;)

I've had things fall through the ground there, quests break there, shops break there, i've had the size of my settlement break there... power issues there, the minuteman radio guy bug..

No where else i've had these issues just the castle..

As far I know that radio doesnt attract any settlers or minuteman, it acts just as a radio station so you will need that recruitment radio if you want to attract people

As for 2nd and 3rd question I didnt get attacked so I wouldnt know and artillery should be able to cover any area you throw the smokes( like I should test it for example throwing one in Sanctuary lol) And my guess is it can kill settlers and allies if they are too close to the impact point

1. There's another quest later that gives you 2 more minutemen, but that's it. If you want more population, a beacon will attract regular settlers. Feel free to dress them up anyhow you want, but they'll still be named settler.

2. Use concrete foundations (which is allowed to partially clip into other objects or the floor) to complete the wall. Then all you'll have to worry about is the front door.

3. I'm not sure about artillery specifically, but it seems to me that you're the only one who can inflict collateral damage. If a raider rockets a settler in the face, he'll get up after the battle. If you rocket a raider with a settler nearby, the settler will die.

I find the starlight drive-in to be a pretty good place to build, once you remove the radiation problem. It's large, flat, open, has a water source right in the middle and places to grow crops.

Castle is the 2nd Best Settlement. Best Settlement when it comes to fortified potential though. I think Sanctuary and the Island are tied for First personally, with some pros/cons for each.
