Why the Institute ending is the best ending (Spoilers obviously)
Now, first of all I want to cover the basics of the BOS ending, and I will not touch on the Railroad or Minutemen, because it is clear that those endings were just thrown in there for more variety.

Here's what you accomplish with the BOS: nothing. Absolutely nothing. You've destroyed a technically advanced city, killed innocent people, and nuked half of downtown Boston. For what? An organization that will just return to the capital wasteland where there is clean water afterwards? The BOS helps nobody but themselves. One of the main complaints about Elder Lyons was that he *did* help out other people. But you routinely hear Knights and Paladins talk about how much they hated Lyons. As I hit the trigger, I felt as if I am back to square one. This whole campaign accomplished nothing. Now, on to the Institute.

The Institute means well, even if their means to the end can be cruel at times, but what major faction doesn't commit atrocities to reach their goals? They have research that is technologically superior to that of pre-war tech. And the only obstacle is that Father has been brainwashed into thinking the people above ground can't be helped. But with the Institute ending, you become director, and even if it isnt explicitely stated in the game, you can imagine manufacturing things like the G.E.C.K, and sending Synths to clean up the planet. You're the leader, and you can save the planet.

Maybe you can answer my question, if I end up destroying BoS, I take it I can't hand in technical docs and use their quartermaster?

If you destroy the BOS, you kill every last one of them.

Edit: But a reward to siding with the Institute is that their quartermaster gets some upgrades after the cutscene rolls.

Ahhhh, now I'm super confused... I really like the institue building, seems like a nice place to chill... I don't really want to lose the Brotherhood for those reasons.

I think I'm just going to pass on the ending for the meantime.

Tech documents only give 25 caps each.

Father, is that you? lol

I know but in my mind I don't like closing doors, I think I've already blown the minuten ending, but can still do the others. I'll just leave it here as currently everyone likes me.

That's definitely an ending of its own. Doing nothing is sometimes the best course of action.

I hate how they tell you ♥♥♥♥ all about the Institute and thus I have no clue whether to side with them or not. Why do they replace people? How are they going to save humanity? Why do they even need the Synths? Why the hell is the only rank with a strange name the rank of director/Father?

I can at least answer the last one, it's because Bethesda thinks it's clever writing for your kid to be called Father even though there's no reason whatsoever for him to be called that. It's not like there's an ''Uncle'' or ''Daughter'' rank in the Institute.

Clearly didnt do railroad enough. They can ally with minuteman/bos

Ive helped all factions and then decided to do the minuteman. Brotherhood is alive and is actually working with the other factions.

Only one is dead is institute. If you do minuteman you can evacuate most of the people inside the building, i actually found x6 afterwords but he wasnt happy to see me.

1. They don't replace people, escaped synths with the help of the railroad do.

2. Save humanity by saving themselves and eventually topside via technology.

3. Workers obviously

4. He is called father because his DNA is the basis of all the human synths you see. Also he's not the only rank. There are directors.

This is all explained... maybe you just didn't pay attention.

Damn just did all 4 endings in a row.. that was pretty lazy.. 3 endings were the same quest with different npcs running around with you.. and all 4 end cinematics were the same too..

But yeah institute was ok but they werent going to help people they just wanted to keep living underground for all eternity so Minuteman ending would be best but it was lame since its a copy of the BoS ending just without the best part of BoS (prime).

Just let obisidian do the next one so we cant get some variety.

It's also my favourite ending. I think destroying the Institute HQ is stupid. EVERYONE can benefit from just clearing out the HQ and repurposing it for their own use. Even the BOS, as much as they hate synths, can still use the production machines and spare parts in their own non-intelligent machines. The clean medical facilities would make for an unbeatable hospital, far better than anything on the surface. The nuclear reactor could provide power to a lot of machines.

If there were an ending that involved a different faction just conquering the Insitute HQ, or making a truce with the Institute, then I would consider that the "right" ending.

Played all 4 endings btw.

If you read more into the computers in the Intitute they actually removed family members for an experiment in a farm and then when they were done they killed everyone at the farm to leave no evidence. If you read how many replacement they have in the SRB (?). They have a few fake people. They HAVE to have killed the origional person to replace them.

The institute DID commit crimes in the name of science and progress, there's no defense to that. But what changes the Institute ending to be the best one is that YOU becomes the leader of the most well-prepared faction for the future. So you help or destroy everyone on the surface? Depends on your character "karma".

I sided the the BOS and afterwards I felt... like... war, war never changes. I mean... we killed innocent scientists and then nuked their home, isn't this the kind of crap that was the cause of the war? The BOS for all their virtue, justice and sense of honor (which is really just a superiority complex) Do no good for humanity because they are willing to destroy anything that gets in their way, they are not diplomatic, or democratic, they are almost like fascists.
