Use a Pipe Auto Pistol, it's very good indoors when you need to deliver fast DPS.

generally yes but you can mod the combat rifle to use the .38 caliber or .308
just like you mod the sniperrifle to use .50

if you havent looked at that workbench i suggest you do

You mean .38

A 38mm bullet would be hilarious.

EDIT: it make me wonder why we cant use Bofors 40mm AA guns with our power armor now... i mean those bofors guns are practically all over the planet even during WW2

Nah. Don't worry about it.
Zourin Nov 19, 2015 @ 6:20am
You need the Commando skill to make the best use of the thousands of .38 rounds you're likely to dig up. Unperked weapons are very, very terrible.

.38 rounds are generally terrible for gunslinger/rifleman perk purposes, because they lack the damage capacity to make non-auto weapons effective, and they can better regulate a limited ammo pool of stronger rounds.

It's 0.38 inches = 9.652 mm, so very close to the 10mm ammo actually :D

Can the 10mm pistol be chambered for .38? – (I can’t remember), but if it could there is a 10mm pistol that will fire two shots at once which would mitigate some of the lack of punch of the .38 while avoiding full-auto.

There's .50 Calibre and 5mm, they are not the same. Miniguns use 5mm, not 0.50 Calibre.
