settlements how to see whos assigned to what?
so seriously, theres salvage benches, merchant stands, food sources, and defense,

and the game apparently gives me no way to tell WHICH settlers are assigned to which roles (because half the time all my settlers are standing in a circle talking to themselves, cant even see what theyre assigned to by what theyre doing), AND it doesnt tell me how many are recommended for each one (for instance producing 34 food/water, have 17 guardposts, 12 merchant stands, and 6 salvage benches scattered around sanctuary, but it doesnt tell me what each "type" is capable of supporting without me going to each and every stand and checking if it has a person assigned, this takes 15 minutes of walking in circles in sanctuary, only to assign somebodty to an empty one just to find out they were assigned to oen of the OTHER defenses so i accomplished nothing, dont even get me started on knowing how many you should assign to food)

all in all, like all the quests that LOOK like itll end with a new companion based on lityerally every line of dialogue the character has that then just ends with everyone dropping it and not caring anymore, looks like settlements were rushed through to have another feature "in the game", really starting to irk me something fierce

save yourself a headache and wait for the 3rd or 4th patch and/or a mod that cleans up settlement management.

right now it is just way too messy.

the rest of the game is totally playable without settlements. just save the minutemen for playthough number 2.

yeah just sucks that this of all things is what they completely missed, never thought once with their devs "huh, i wonder how we tell which guys is doing what" like literally every other management game ever

Yeah it can get confusing when you have a lot of settlement and settlers. What I do is to dress settlers who are farming all with the same kind of clothes, the same with other jobs, so I can visually see what their job is without highlighting them or anything. Just gather some common clothing or armor for your workers.

The only, and rather clunky, way of seeing what a Settler is assigned to is to go into Workshop Mode (V) look at the Settler in question, then - and only if they are near it - will their assigned task be highlighted. I.e. Looked at a settler and the crops in the background become highlighted to, that's what they're assigned to.

In other words, it's currently rubbish and near worthless.

I have been trying to uniform my settlers to a degree. I.e. any I have defending I give instantly recognisable armour too, those tending crops & try to make them look like farmers. Someone manning a Store would have a smart suit, etc. etc. Farm from ideal, plus settlers do often just wander off and disappear for extended periods which is a pain too!

This will either be patched - it strikes me as an incomplete feature personally - or it'll be modded to not be rubbish...our second or third play throughs should be less painful I hope.

Good idea. I didn't even know you could do that though. How do you?

When you open their barter menu, just trade them some clothes you want them to wear, then swap over to their side and press the the prompted button to equip it to them.
