Been wondering the same as well. Haven't tested it yet, but one benefit for the Intelligence boost might be for extra XP, as higher Intelligence grants higher XP. Not sure if that is based on the root statistic, or if any modifiers (chems, gear, etc) will increase that benefit. Will have to find out. At least Perception will still be useful, increasing your environmental awareness.

Try Bufftats for example

I believe a lot of the SPECIAL stats now have minor, bonus effects to compensate for the lack of a skill system.

I could be wrong on that, of course, but that's just what I've noticed. Higher int. gives increased XP gain, progressively easier terminal hacking, higher per. gives more VATS-related stuff and might make picking locks easier... again, this is all just speculative, but I think the buffs now are a lot softer. You probably won't ever need them, but they could come in handy.

I have noticed that the higher your Intelligence, the fewer word choices you have while hacking, reducing the amount of incorrect answers and making it easier.

They increase your chance of faster getting a code right. I've noticed it takes more tries to get a code right without mentats, when taking some it makes it faster.

There's still the odd explicit INT check as well. Having an INT of 9+ let me completely skip a fetch quest part of the USS Constitution quest line, for instance -- I could repair some machinery without a needing a particular component.

CHA seems to have significantly more explicit checks, though.

It's kind of funny, in F3 and FNV I use to have alot of mentats, aswell as low Int, but in F4, doing the same thing with low int, mentats is my most lowest drug I have. So I honestly don't find it useless, unless you have high int and rely on that without taking mentats when hacking.

I just sell them so I make a profit whenever I buy stuff.
