Laser Rifle Sniper Barrel Charge?

I've noticed the Sniper Barrel has 3 little red lights that run on after each shot, and it seems the gun does more damage if you let them all light up, or am I mistaken?

I tested it on some Triggermen and it 1 shot when fully charged, and 2 when not but that could just be random?

Ok, with the red lights it dealt more damege, its confirmed by me

Note that Sniper Barrel deals listed damage only with all 3 pips filled. Damage with rapid fire is much less than that of a Long Barrel. Looks like 0 red lights deals only 25% of fully charged shot damage.

Also if you want to make laser sniper rifle it's better to use Laser Musket as a base. When maxed out it does 2.5 times more damage (228) at 6 cranks while having similar reload speed (considering time to fully charge a rifle) and range (239 vs 263)

Laser rifle is my favorite weapon, I used it all the way from mid game to main story ending (I was lvl 42). With mods it is more powerful than most ballistic weapons and ammo for it is available early and in good amount (unlike plasma/rails). Also it has a good range and accuracy so you can use it both for outdoors and close quarters combat. Just use long barrel and good capacitors.

the reason why the weapons are weaker is because almost nobody has good protection against them they are a monster against the brotherhood of steel and works on bandits so what i am saying is that this thing has armor piercing better

Hey, It is true the 3 lights affect the damage drastically. However, if one is making a gunslinger VATS build like me, you should know that no matter what, every VATS shot makes the 3 lights stay on and benefit from full dmg. Which is why my prefered Fusion Cell weapon is a Fully upgraded Laser Pistol with a Sniper barrel.
