When you meet that protectron that talks about the Freedom Trail, there's a red line on the ground. Follow that line.

Nope there isn't. It's unmarked. Just look for the sign or the red line on the sidewalk.

From what I can remember, the beginning of the quest is very near the fast travel point to Boston Common. Look for a robot.

Go to the boston common. In the park you will find a manhole cover with red paint on it and a line of red bricks. Follow the bricks and examine each manhole cover thing, you will need the number/letter combos from all of them to unlock the door at the end.

Just google the quest name, i found several guides on how to complete it. Following the trail to the end is easy but i would have never guessed how to open the door without help from google.

The easy way: Just google "Old North church location, Fallout 4. Add pip-boy if you come up dry, there's a few posts and guides on the net that actually show you the pip boy location"

Unless you actually want to do it yourself, posts above.
