Strange white polygon/plane/wall bug... anyone seen these?
Well, I've run into this twice now, here's the description: I'll be exploring, and twice now I've found randomly placed, pure-white "walls" in the environment, always stretching between two pre-existing pieces of geometry. Now, I walk through these "walls," only to find they're invisible on the opposite side. upon walking through again, to the original side, it appears white yet again. oh, bullets can fly through them and enemies see through them.

This all leads me to one conclusion: they're not really there in the game world... meaning this is a highly annoying visual bug.

As to where I've seen these, I'm standing by one at the time of writing this: It's at the "dartmouth Professional Building," which is a short distance due-east of diamond city. The "Wall" itself is positioned along the edge of the half-circle entryway, so as to extend between the edge of the cieling to the ground.

Here re two screenshots, one from the "visible side" and one from the "invisible side:"

So, yeah... I don't believe my card's overheating or anything, it's a GTX 760, but if anyone's had this bug, or has any ideas, I'd appreciate it!

I'm also having this problem, and I'm using a GTX 980. My pc exceeds the suggested, so i doubt it's that. Hopefully a patch will be released soon.

Yeah, I'm assuming it'll be patched/optimized or whatever, though in good news is I haven't run into this for a good time in game now.

Here's to hoping it doesn't pop up (too much!) again!

I haven't seen that but I'm seeing this almost constantly now, and I don't know why. Also sometimes the ground textures look like...well some kind of sponge and raisin pudding, to be honest. Warped and stretched, not so much from textures that haven't loaded, just...horribleness. It fixes itself upon quicksave/quickload though. Unlike those white loading screen models.

Also, I do believe that's the ghost of that one super mutant you killed in that one fight in that one place, on that one day you did the thing with the things. He's totally haunting you for it.

Same for me. I've had this happen in more than a few places as walls, and the nearest mine to the Sancuary does this on along the cement floors.

I got a super beefy system, and this has been happening to me for at least the last two nvidea drivers. Dunno if it was a problem or not before the last two updates cause I was only just starting the game then.

This thread is old.

The original problem is just LOD Objects not fading out when they're supposed to. It's a problem with the game itself.

The second "problem" is because the poster pushed the Vats button in a loading screen. It's a feature.

I'm posting on this thread over two months afterwards (8/23/16) and still seeing the same LOD glitch with the Dartmouth Professional Building. Gave me quite a scare when I first saw it.

The most important thing to know is how to solve this problem but I'm guessing from the post above me that there's no solution currently.

Hey, glad to see this thread's still helping people, at least in reassurance that they're not alone!

Sadly, I can't seem to remember how I've solved this problem, but it hasn't happened for me in ages. From what I've gathered (IIRC) the bug has to do with the game itself not unloading LOD meshes, as 'Bansheebot' stated just above.

Well, I'm sorry I can't be of much help, though I will ask this on a limb: are you running the game above 60 frames per second? I don't *believe* that would contribute to this problem, especially since when it happened to me I had it capped to 60, but anything above 60 really screws with the game's logic.

I wish you luck resolving this,

Keep in mind that Bethesda's idea of optimization is removing effects like global illumination, shadows and downgrading textures.

Some of the current graphical glitches are the result of Bethesda downgrading the graphics.

stuff like this keep me stopped playing ... it's the game engine and the stupid "dupe" savegame mechanics...

For those finding this thread in the future, here's what worked for me when I was originally playing with Detail set to Ultra:

> Change Detail to Low
> Go to Advanced options
> Manually change all settings back to Ultra

I can confirm that this works, at least for me, Thanks man, if there's anyone else who has this problem on this thread, try this if it works then mark it solved so people can find it easier.

Thanks YT, once again.
