electricity and traps explaination needed
Hello fellow gamers,

Could somebody kindly explain some of those electrical parts (conduits, switches, etc) work and how to set up traps appropriately?

I’m not electrician nor majored in electrical engineering (never even heard of "conduits" until today to be honest)

and I’m trying to make strong defense around my settlements but not sure how traps work... I try to set up traps but as soon as I connect them to wires to generators they just go off without motion sensors or somebody tripping the traps.. Any ideas how to set them up correctly?

I welcome all constructive and detail explanation! Thank you

You have to connect them in a series.

Very simply

Power -> Trigger -> Trap

If you go Power -> Trap, it'll just go off constantly.

Even better:

Power -> Alarm switch -> Trigger -> Trap

That way, your traps don't fry your supply runners unless the alarm is sounded.

you're missing the point.. i don't want them to go off constantly

He explained exactly what you need to do. Make a trigger that connects first, rather than connect the power immediately like you're currently doing.

I think you're missing the point. He told you to use a Power -> Trigger -> Trap so it wouldn't go off constantly. If you just use Power -> Trap it'll go boom immediately.

That's what he said...

Then try READING what he wrote! LOL!

That's the point.

You need to put something with a switch on it inbetween the power source and the trap.

Switch boxes and Pylons with switches let you determine when things are on/off.

Tripwires and Pressure plates will go off whenever something trips on it, friend or foe.

If you connect power to an Alarm, then connect the alarm to the trap, the trap will activate when the settlers set off the alarm.

If you connect power to the alarm, then a tripwire, then a trap, then the tripwire will only activate when an enemy comes near, and the trap itself will go off when something breaks the tripwire.

^OK this is the problem here...

If you still don't get it, here it is really simple:

Have a power generator
Have a trap
Have something that you want to trigger the trap, such as a touchpad, laser, switch whatever.
Connect the power to the trigger
Connect the trigger to the trap
DO NOT JUST CONNECT THE POWER TO THE TRAP THE POWER HAS TO FLOW THROUGH A TRIGGER

Once you have got that, try something more complicated. Have all the power that you want to eventually go through traps to FIRST GET CONNECTED TO A SIREN. Then a wire from the siren to the trigger. Then a wire from the trigger to the trap. This way the traps will only be active when you have pulled the switch at the alarm.

k thanks =D any comments about conduits?

Conduits are mostly for running power through or along buildings, as oppossed to pylons which can run longer distances, but aren't good for building lights.
