Spells in Fallout 4? *Possible quest Spoiler, Cabot House
So, I was intrigued by Lorenzo's glowy abilities, and out of curiosity, looked him up in the console. One of the available bits of information was something called "Lorenzo's spell", I believe. And it was tagged as a spell on the left, like Skyrim had it.

On a hunch, I tried the player.addspell command on myself, and used it's ID. It worked, and added the spell to myself. The only problem is that Fallout 4 obviously doesn't have an interface to go to a spell menu to select it. :D

For any mod-creators out there, do you think this means that Skyrim's spell system is still in the game, and could be easily brought back? My novice-tier knowledge says that Bethesda left spells in the game, and just uses their funtions for things like stealthboys, but removed our access to the menu. Simply adding an interface to add spells again should.... fix that, right?

Does this mean we could have magic in Fallout?

you can equip items with player.equipitem [id]. Its unknown to me if this applies to spells or what button you use for them.
The spell system is fully in effect. Weapon effects, item effects, creature effects are often built on it.

It's not too far wrong to say that under the hood, FO4 is just Skyrim with swords swapped out for ray guns.

It's wild to think it has been six years already :lunar2019piginablanket:

Exactly. The core system is still in there, since "spells" for Fallout 4 serve just as a useful category of effects to apply to characters.

For example, when you take a chem, the effect applied to you may well be classed as a spell by the game, it's just triggered to cast on you by you using the chem object in your inventory, rather than by you expending "magicka" as a personal resource.

In short, spell effects are still present in various forms, it's just spellcasting that's absent, since there are no wizards in the post-apocalypse.

Some NPCs do cast "spells", like glowing ones and their resurrection things, or their radiation aura is a "cloak" spell, but most things are just remnants of Skyrim. You can find many deprecated features in the Creation Kit, like references to shouts, dragons, potions... We're just in the same universe, but not quite :P

That would be a cool mod though.
