Rook family house / Salem (possible spoilers)

Ok, I'm currently in Salem Mass - the place is deserted. There's a couple of dead mirelurks in front of a house called "Rook Family House". Theres a lot of defenses, but no one in town.

Is there anything to do here? There's a locked basement door that requires a key. But otherwise it's a ghost town (not including the witchcraft museum outside of town, that was a good fight).

Oh no. Came here looking for a fix for "Missing Barney" problem, but this is what I have figured out from reading this thread: Barney is a script-generated character. He has a base id, but no real ref id. Any ref id starting with ff is script generated. Otherwise, the first two hex numbers are 00 if from the base game, or the mod index number if from a mod.

This means, he can not be summoned if he doesn't exist. If you find him dead, you can get the generated ref id number from his corpse, but without that, there is no way to summon him. His reference doesn't exist in the game, and you can't work with just a base id.

Oh well, I really only wanted the perk mag from his basement, guess I'll summon his key instead.

I found Barney dead, lying on the small roof in front of the Rook´s house. Took the key and entered the basement. He remained dead but i was still curious what was down there!

For those who are really wanting the Guns & Bullets mag and Reba II, and who have been unable to respawn Barney or restart the quest there is another option. Go to the trapdoor in Barney's house and then while looking at the door open the console and then left click on the door. Numbers will appear giving the ID of the door, then simply type unlock This will unlock the trapdoor allowing entry into the basement, the same command can then be used on the door leading to Barney's workshop and the Reba II. As of 7/23/16 doing this does not lock achievements. Doing this will not lead to Reba I or his password for the computers.

I hate that person. Last time he spawned, i just went away, did some other stuff then came back, looted his dead ass and got his stuff.

I really dislike condescending characters in this game that make YOUR character act stupid. He is one of THOSE. He is better off dead. Second one would be Piper but you can totally brush her off so, i give her some slack. Third such person is, in fact, DiMa. ( an unfortunate victim of Bathesda trying to be clever syndrome ). He first asks if you are sure if you are not a Synth, then tries to get under your skin with it. What does your character do? Roll with it. He is stupid and he makes YOU stupid. Hate him.

Try these two, they both worked for me (only on pc though).

open the console if barneys body is there, point at his body. Type recycleactor he should now be up and able to be talked to.

open the console If no body or you just want to get in his trap door. Type 00000014.additem 000d2c86 his key is now being added to your inventory.

Ok so... I played around for a bit with the console trying to figure out how to reset the quest but I couldn't figure it out... I decided hell with it, i'll just loot him and head off for now. I grabbed the key off this dead body, resurrected him with the console in hopes it would fix itself later, and went down to the basement... where he was standing, alive. He is talking to me like normal now. Weirdest bug so far lol
