Piper is completely bugged. (SOLVED!)
EDIT: Here's a fix for this bug, provided by Lazarus Long! Thanks a lot!

Open the console, left-click Piper and type
removefromfaction 75d56

Now you should be able to talk to her again. :)

Due to some random bug Piper won't talk to me anymore. All she says is some random stuff along the lines of "Nice weather today." and "If you need me to carry something, just tell me."

She is not my companion as I can recruit others as I please. Whenever I talk to her no Dialogue field is opened. She just stands there, repeats her generic dialogue, and keeps going after her business. Business as in she's stationed at the Red Rocket Gas Station and works on the Weapon Workbench all day until she sits on the porch outside the house I built on top of the gas station all night. That's really all she does.

What happened?

After the mission where you go to Goodneighbour to access Kellogg's memories I noticed Piper wasn't with me throughout the entire mission. She was only present when I started the mission in Valentine's shack (so essentially she was there when I turned "Reunion" in at Nick's). When Nick said we'll have to go to Goodneighbour I told him I'll take Piper with me and meet him there. Well sh*t. She didn't come.
After the mission I could not find Piper at all, so I teleported to her. She asked me about the Institute where I could then ask her about the Minutemen, the BoS and the Railroad, and as soon as I clicked "Nevermind" she turned into the inanimate, generic NPC she now is.

Here's what I tried so far:

- Move to her via console
- Move her to me via console
- Resurrect (and therefore reset) her
- Disable her
- Enable her
- Disable her again out of frustration
- rdf (reset all dialogue)
- setessential 0
-> kill her
-> finally dead
-> resurrect her
-> setessential 1
-> "What a nice weather, Blue."
-> setessential 0
-> kill her again
-> "Piper hated that" (ohrlly?)
-> "Valentine hated that"
-> F9
-> "Let's forget this happened."

She works on an earlier save that's mere 19 hours back. Not gonna load that one. Nope. I'd rather piggyback the Chameleon Deathclaw from Vault 111 to the crashed plane outside of the map than doing all those missions over again.

Question is, is there a way I have missed? Resetting her does not work. Disabling/Enabling her does not work. Moving her to me does not work. Letting a clone of her spawn does not work.
Can I force her into dialogue? Can I force her into being my companion?

I'm desperate here. I love Dogmeat and all, but sometimes I need a human companion for a change.
Nick is too synthetic.
Strong is too stupid.
Preston is too ghetto.
And Cait's just too Irish.

Got nothing for ya :L I have the same problem with Preston Garvey and I've turned his AI off and back on again a couple of times. and with piper I have the opposite problem, I can only set her as a companion. I have a quest which is 'talk to piper' but every time I do she only opens a companion menu.

We can only hope that there is a patch or something some time soon that fixes bugs like this, not being able to do quests and use all the companions are some seriousley irritating bugs :(
I feel you, bro. I can only help for a patch, too. However, this seems to be not such a big issue, so I don't know if we'll get Bethesda's attention..

Im having this same exact issue, made a post as well but no response. Will let you know if I find a fix.
Finally, people with the same issue. Maybe Bethesda will notice it.

Meanwhile, was it the same quest that triggered the bug? As in did you have Piper as a companion and chose to head out with Piper to Goodneighbour when you were asked by Nick?

Also I tried some more and the it didn't even work to select her, type "setplayerteammate 1"
It made her my companion but she won't follow me. She listens to commands like "Go" or "Stay" or even "Investigate [object]" but she won't follow or talk to me. When I select talk she repeates her generic lines but no additional dialogue field is opened.

If I knew the topic code for "Follow" or "Dismiss" I'd try selecting her, "sayto 00002f1f [topic]" but I don't know these codes.

had same issue, even tried everything you did, sadly only reverting to an earlier save and doing a cuple of other missions before the kellog memory one fixed it for me :steamsad:

First off.

Not using curie or denise cmon son.

second, if this is just like a bug were every time you select talk you just get a click and cant do anything, take a diffrent follower, send her somewhere, then go pick her back up again. I had that issue with denis i could not get rid of him or progress his story

Nah, this is different. It just won't even open a dialogue menu. I can't interact with her in any way at all. Even when opening the workshop menu I can't select her to assign her to some task or move her to some other settlement. She does nothing besides standing around, although she did talk to Cait once.

I got the problem that she is a potential companion, but now I somehow cant be interviewed by her. Meaning that her mission cant be completed. I thought of going to her office, with Piper as an companion. Maybe that works..

Edit: Ok, its fixed by selecting her as a companion and starting the talk option..

xb, that sounds like something else, man. I'm glad you got it fixed, though!

I'm having the same problem as most of you guys. EXACT SAME THING happened to me, except I tried going away, resting, and doing a bunch of other missions as well.

Nothing fixed it :steamsad: she is still acting the same way you guys are talking about. Last save before the glitch was 18 hours before!

I'm pretty pissed about it. Not sure I'll be playing it again until the bug is fixed.

Exact same issue down to the last detail as OP, had tried literally all the same console commands as well with no luck. Piper just will not behave as a normal companion. Closest I can get is by "forcing" the companion state with:

prid 2f1f > setplayerteammate 1

Which allows me to open the companion dialogue wheel, however the pertinant commands do not work. (talk/follow) Oddly enough, trade and cancel do.

Bug occured during the exact same spot in the quest as OP. Very frustrating.
