PC (keyboard) controls..
So, I have what I perceive to be a real issue. I am a right handed person who uses his PC mouse on the left. This is not something I am looking to change - I do a large amount of data entry on my main PC and the ability to use the numpad with my right hand whilst still using the mouse is invaluable. Also, games like this allow me to use the arrow keys to decide where I'm going. Great.

Only, it doesn't allow me to change /all/ of the keys. To craft, I've been using the 'always move' key on and off whilst walking as there's no other way I can direct my PC to move forwards - I can't change the crafting menu to use other keys to choose pieces out of the same menu, so I'm stuck with this really awkward manner. The 'e' key can be changed out of the 'activate' slot, but when you get to any looting menu it reverts back to 'e' for all intents and purposes. And before you ask, just because it allows me to change some of the keys that drive me bonkers doesn't mean that when in a different menu it uses the old keys - no, it doesn't mind that I've double mapped arrows and simply leaves WASD disabled.

Shy of going through the INI files (I have in a cursory fashion but haven't found anything along the lines of keyboard controls), is there anything obvious I'm missing here?

No you aren't missing anything. The game has hardcoded keybinds. What you can do, is set them all back to default, and use a program like AutoHotKey to rebind your numpad to the default keys. (Example: Set "8" on the numpad to send "W" instead)

or use "voice attack", considering they are lazy bottom feeders and couldn't be bothered to input keybindings because they made it for the kiddy controllers.

so thats why I cant find how to change the keybinds... sheesh wonder why they did that?

You decided to use the mouse in a weird af way, now you must face the consequences. Who the hell uses a mouse with their left hand, besides lefties?

"Who the hell uses a mouse with their left hand, besides the ~800million left handed people in the world?"
the man should be allowed to use QZMP to move if he wants to. every other PC game made in this century has the option to bind any action to any key, why not this one?

well the answer to that should be obvious

O.P. has the right to use their computer any way they choose. I have a problem with the keyboard assignments too. WASD gives me carpel tunnel. I've been gaming for 17 years and found out I couldn't use WASD years ago. I assign move forward to the right mouse button to take pressure off my left hand. It worked well till I tried to use a workshop. Then I found I could only move left and back, not right and forward due to hard bound keys. I hope the devs can unbind all the keys so anyone who needs to bind keys in a certain fashion may do so.

A workaround for this is using AutoHotKey to rebind the key(s) instead of attempting to do it in-game.

I hear you, my friend. I've read a little about AutoHotKey. Maybe I'll give it a try.

But how many games have you played in the past 5 years or so have had bound keys? Doesn't make sense.

I agree it's dumb, but that's what happens when a company does their best to save every cent they can and doesn't really care about the PC gamer.

I find that statement highly offensive! I'm a leftie and I use my right hand for my mouse.

And again, I'm a right-hander. When DOOM came out, it was not played with WASD. I grew up playing DOOM. And besides, as pointed out - it's a data entry thing. Learn to do it (and get an ambidextrous mouse as a good 8/10 mice can't be used with your right hand) and you might change your mind. On the plus side, I'm doing alright just with awkward motions. I managed to get an entire gigantic shack outline above Greygarden just using 'push forward' and the mouse for motion, so that's something, right?

I suppose, just too bad you have to play that way with a "AAA" game. It seems the publi$her$ of these games want to ween us P.C. Gamers off our computers so they can only develop games that are played on a much more profitable (due to easier to develop) console.
