Over 40h and hate one thing the most - few armors...
So am I the only one who thinks that Fallout 4 armor system is a bit trashy and that they put very few items to protect you. Power Armors aside. The other gear, few helmets got like 2 armors I am wearing from start till now. Lots of clothing with 0 protection and a lot of gabage armor that are like metal and leather...

Fallout 3 and New Vegas had really tons and tons and tons of gear to put on and each piece was a good look and with the variety you could choose what and why. Here so far you don't choose ♥♥♥♥, if you want protection you got like 1 or 2 options without power armor.

I think it's really that is so few, think this will change with update dlcs etc?

Metal and leather peices aren't bad if you pick up the armorer perk.. or you pull off mods from the stuff you find.

You'd be surprised what you can do with the Toughness perk as well. Lets you get away with wearing less "optimal" armor if you want to keep it snazzy.
I wear normal outfits (usually Army fatigues if I need to carry weight with their +1 STR or combat fatigues otherwise with their +2 AGI), and then lots of customised arm, chest, and leg wear. Still wearing the sea captain's hat since the beginning. The customisation option is pretty extensive, so it seems to substitute for set armour well enough for my tastes. I greatly prefer it to FO3's setup. I hate power armour though, so there's that.

Have it and know all of that, still so far been there done that. All looks not so nice in variety aspect. Fallout 4 gives you a brown rock and a yellow rock and tells you this are two totally different things, no dude it's just the color it's the same crapy rock I don't want to see.

In 3h of fallout 3 and new vegas I saw more armor and gear you can put on you then in 40h of fallout 4.

This is exactly the thing I'm talking about have and did the same as you LOL!
So it's like that for most also, you can't choose you just have 1 option...

I like the new take on power armor. It's not just some lame 'best armor in game' skin, but a game mechanic. Each their own, though. The game is still good enough to drag out millions.

I'm about 2 points into Toughness, but I don't think it affects lasers so.. that's a thing.

You got the mirror perk for that.
If you look at the wiki, the actual amount of armours and outfits is pretty comparable, especially considering the FO3 list includes all the expansions and there hasn't been one yet for FO4. NV has quite a bit too, but I haven't counted them all.

What? In 3 hours of new vegas you saw 3 armors. Leather armor, reinforced leather armor and the powder ganger outfits. (and a ton of "clothes with 0 protection" as you put it)

I'll agree that after a while the clothing variety begins to stink, but less hyperbole, more fair comparison please. Also, you are comparing a game with 5 DLC and 5 years of modding behind it with a freshly released game.

60 hours in and i'm enjoying the armour system so far, my guy is looking pretty cool, picked up a coupkle of bits of armour from legendary enemies too, add good buffs, i'm loving the power armour also, i have the T-45c with minuitemen paint, take it everywhere with me, treat it like a favourite car like in GTA5, i also have some pieces of the T-51 power armour but not all pieces to make a full suit yet.

New Vegas had tones of them, but its not the same group now. And I don't count the different name and color to be a different piece of gear, it's the same armor for me.

I am starting to find a few more about level 25 ish. Sythetic composite armor is my main suit now, clothing sometimes usefull, you can find full suits with "mods" hard built into them. My creep and shoot armor gives me 30 defence and both kinetic and energy and has a bonus mod that works for me. If your talking athtetics then hoeply mods will help. This is not NV though. On it's own it seems to have a few more base types as you level up. Just like NV.

It's a little lacking. It would be alright if there where modding options. But most armors can't be modded and if, they don't show a change in visuals.
Andarvi Nov 14, 2015 @ 3:44am
I'm hoping that one of the first things mods add is the ability to mod EVERY armor. Even plain clothes and hats. The customisation doesn't have to be on the level or the current armor, but at least making them a viable alternative would be nice.
