No items in shop inventory?

I just assigned a settler in Sanctuary to the "Clothing" stand. I spoke to him but there was literally nothing in my both our inventories when the trade menu came up. I reloaded but still nothing. Any ideas?

I just had this same issue. Store your shop (TAB) while aiming at it in build mode, exit build mode, re-enter build mode, place the shop back down, and the reassign the settler.

I don't mean to insult you, but are you in the "Barter" menu and not the "Trade" menu when you're at your shop's NPC?

Yeah. Barter menu is empty but the Trade menu isn't. Also, I got it to work somehow. I left Sanctuary, did something else, came back and they were fine. I don't know what the hell that was about but I hope it doesn't happen again.

Annnd it happened again... Went back to Sanctuary to get some components, needed to buy Copper, spoke to the guy, and nothing in there. I think I'm going to wait until they patch this to play again.

Is there a console command to refresh an NPC's inventory?

yeah it's happened a couple times to me too. I saved my game then restarted the game from desktop and it usualy fixes it.

Almost 3 years later and this bug is still an issue.

This is pissing me off.

2018 and I just had this issue myself with Fallout VR. Nothing is working.

It seems Bethesda couldn't be bothered to notice.
I am adding this to the list of reasons not to buy Fallout 76

I'm not preordering but may pick it up after release. That sucks that those bugs still persist in F4.

I just read this whole discussion and I think it is all about the opening times of the traders. you can look up the times at which traders are accesable at the fallout4wiki.

Hope I could help at least some people that still play this game.

None of those posts had any useful information.

When you assign a settlers to a shop the scripting needs time to implement it. Depending on how much scripting you have running is how long it is going to take.

Sometimes just quitting the game and restarting and going back to a previous save where inventories are normal fixes this. Unbelievable that this bug still persists.
