That may not actually be the best idea. Mutations can come with benefits. Namely even better loot drops. I ended up killing the same legendary twice today. I forgot to save the first time, and got myself killed shortly afterwards. The second time the legendary managed to mutate on me, and the loot drop seems to have been different as a result. In fact it was a whole lot better. The first drop was a plus twenty five damage to a specific type of enemy. The second drop instead was plus twenty five bleeding damage. In other words an all around better weapon.
Two moose on separate occasions, (well they look like moose to me) It dropped some legendary armor item in both cases. If I saw a Alpha Legendary Death Claw I'd prob
just ♥♥♥♥ my pants.
Then try to run away with well oiled bum cheeks.
