Fallout 4 Crash to Desktop - C.I.T. Ruins
This crash occurs only when I go to a specific location by the bridge near the CIT Ruins, next to the river. Whenever I walk or look at it when I'm right next to it, my game crashes to desktop. There is no "Fallout 4 has stopped working" or other error messages of any kind.

I first noticed it during the Ad Victoriam quest, but have tested it on different saves extensively.

I've tried multiple things to try and fix it; adjusting graphics settings (tried them all), restoring default settings in the ini files after I'd adjusted FOV, reloading old saves, all to no avail.

My system specs aren't my concern, as my rig can handle everywhere else just fine. (60 fps FTW!) And, yes, I have my drivers updated.

Does anyone else expereince this particular bug? Know how to fix it?

Same here!
But my system specs are my concern xD
i've a Intel Core duo 3ghz and a Nvidia Gforce GXT 570
But, only in that place i've some SERIOUS ISSUE.
For Example, near or inside Bunker Hill.
At the first time i've lowered my settings, even the resolution.
it was a littel better, but then the crash again.
In some area i touch the 60 fps, in the open spaces it lowered at something like 30/40 for a brief moment, and then it runs again smoothly.
I dunno, i think is a Game problem (and to be honest, i REALLY REALLY hope is it xD)
Sorry for my bad english ç_ç

That's K, I was hoping the bug wasn't unique to my bad luck. I just tested it and it crashed when I was on the road near the Memorial Drive sign. Hope it gets patched or there's a way to fix it.

Try reloading an old save. I know it sucks but I've had the same problem with other Buthesda games (Skyrim, Fallout New Vegas, etc).
DemiChi Nov 17, 2015 @ 12:20pm
Tried that, doesn't seem to make a difference. Even with a new character. Just gonna have to wait for Bethesda to patch it. (If they get around to it, that is.)

Best fix I've seen; if you install mods, and Fallout crashes every time you try to play it (it gets to the Bethesda logo, then dies), your problem may be a mod conflict which has damaged your files. Removing NMM or pulling mods won't work, file already damaged.

1) How to Fix:
Fix the files (Steam Library > Fallout 4 (Right Click) > Properties > Local Files Tab > Verify Integrity of Game Cache)

2) Keep from happening again:
Pull all mods. When putting them back in, it will notify you of a potential conflict. DO NOT INSTALL said Mod. I know that the English translation of the dialogue mod and the easy sort mod will cause this damage. You can't use both.

Even without mods this can happen, so try the Game Cache repair. Can work wonders.

Yes I have the same issue... Its the very center of the map... a circular area between Hallucigen, CIT, Monsignor plaza etc. Seems to be around greenetech genetics.... Ive played for 100 hours and now have 4 quests that go into that area that i cant complete.

I tried my save game from when i left the vault.... after 1 hour of gameplay and i could walk into that area without problems.... so there is some sort of gameplay related or savegame related corruption. However that means that if I start over theres no telling what will cause it in the future...

I reloaded an old save, from the day after launch, and surely enough, it worked fine. The save was just before I changed my character's name and face using console commands. So, I'm not sure, but if others have done that, think twice before changing something like that.

(BTW, I've got a FX-6300, not currentlty on turbo mode. A steady 60fps. Mostly.)

Theres a beta patch in steam that fixed the bug for many of us

Hopefully you can all play again soon :)

I have the same issue, same place, CIT Ruins. Tried many different things, including drivers, uninstalling everything ... nothing works. My only recourse was to go do some other things and never go around that area. Here's the exact edge of the map where the game crashes: http://imgur.com/sFVkZvA

I noticed it's exactly in line with the road separating the CIT-related district. Hope it gets fixed soon -- between this and dumb repeating settlement quests, I think I am losing faith in this game.

The latest beta patch fixed it for most of us :)

It wasn't fixed for me. The worst part is, it seems to happen to me in no particular area. It happens anywhere and everywhere. The beta did not solve this problem and the game is relatively unplayable. There has to be a better way around this, right?

I've just had the exact same problem, I can discover the Cambridge Crater, but I can't go past a certain radius of the centre without the game closing to desktop.
