I only go to my pip when its necessary, its hard for me to associate it with saves. "oops better open my pipboy to save" doesnt cross my mind.
It is 2015. There should be an autosave by now especially since autosaves are done in seconds and dont really freeze the action. But its hard for me to say all this and pretend like its a huge outrage. The solutions here are fine. Not ideal or perfect but ok.
Still, if they offered some sort of autosave automatically anywhere every 5mins option i would definatly use it. Remembering to F5 works though but id like it automatic.
Just hit F5,that will Quick Save. F9 will load your last Quick Save. Very easy to save yourself,no need for an auto save.
Lol, I think I'm the only one who plays with a controller.
Not to mention the sudden stutter of a game when it autosaves while you're out in the field.
So no, the Autosave system isn't crap. It's actually infinitely better than the one OP wants, and hence why OP is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ on a forum and not a game designer.

Problem solved. Same way we solve all the Bethesda Sandbox Game problems.
You want immersive experience? You're going to have to craft that yourself out of mods. I'm more concerned with engagement.
Having to reload an old save and replay the last twenty minutes because the game crashed, or the physics engine did something stupid, or some npc was stuck in another cell, or some other game failure is neither immersive or engaging.
