Form Ranks quest help?(spoilers if you havent gotten this far)

I accidentally got help from the minutemen for getting into the institute when i wanted the brotherhood of steel and after i got out of the institute the preston guy told me i needed to go recruit settlements. ive gone on a quest to take over a bunch of settlements and thats not doing it. Anyone know what to do?

Hey, I just got past it. What you need to do is you need to basically progress the minutemen storyline and after old guns you should be good.

Alright, I have already completed old guns. but I take a look at minutemen storyline and see if it works.

I can't progess any further and I think its because I took the Castle without doing Old Guns. Any suggestions or help?

I completed Old Guns long before I finished Inside Job, and Preston refuses to give me the next quest.
