Covenant as a settlement (Spoilers)
So I sided against the people at Covenent. SPOILERS AHEAD

I ended up having to kill them all, even though I didn't really want to. At first I thought I could turn this into a pretty decent settlement, but now I'm realizing I can't. All the beds are still owned by the dead residents, I can't even remove them from the building because they can't be scrapped. All the items are still owned, too, so I'd either have to scrap everything or steal everything. I'd only be able to have a few settlers in the place because there isn't enough room for any more beds anywhere, just what's in the guest house.

I'm ♥♥♥♥♥♥ about the beds, because I finally found a queen sized bed and I can't even use it, the selection for beds for settlements are ♥♥♥♥. Is there a console command for removing ownership on items?

Yea that town is ♥♥♥♥♥♥ bad. If you get settlers and then steal stuff your own settlement goes agro on you. The turrents left over dont count to your denfence points (no happiness bonuses and more frequent attacks), you also dont have room to put turrents outside, and there is almost no room inside the walls.

I thought the same as you, was really excited to get that settlement but it is probably one of the worst in the game. I guess if you side with Covenent all these problems don't happen.

The turrets don't even count towards defense? I'm just going to not bother with it then, what an absolute waste of potential.

Yea its botched. Needs a patch for people who side against them. Also forgot to mention, but if you build your own turrents they will agro onto the existing ones and kill them anyway. You also cannot get rid of the destroyed turrent parts that are blocking you from rebuilding your own turrents there, unless you go into console and delete them that way.

At first I thought it would be a cool settlement, but as stated above, its sadly botched.

I figured out the bed issue. if you open the console, click on the beds, and type "setownership" they now belong to you, and you can use them. For the bunk beds, you don't even have to do that. Just assign a settler to the bed and the "owned" status will disappear.

The turrets are a pain, but if you disable them through the console you can place your own turrets in their place. Don't attack them, because when I did the whole settlement attacked me. For the stealable items, I'm most likely going to just scrap everything and place my own stuff.

If it's just me and a companion at the settlement, do I have to worry about food or water?

Oh good thats really good to know! I was just going to give up on the beds.
Is there any way to unlock the doors to the houses permently? One of the houes (I think it is the bunk bed one) keeps relocking itself. Not a problem for me, as I got the key, but I worry for the settlers.

I destroyed the turrets before any settles turned up, but now they are flaming stumps, making the whole place look like a death camp. :P

BTW, is there any way to craft Bunk Beds? Cos they really help save space. Not to mention they look cleaner. :P
Mr. Self Destruct Nov 14, 2015 @ 7:47pm
No way to craft bunk beds, unfortunately, or that awesome queen size bed, either. I think if you do the same thing on the doors, console "unlock" and "setownership" that might remove the need for the key. Haven't tried that, yet, so I don't know.

For the destroyed turrets, you can use the console to delete the flaming parts, and then you'll be able to use those platforms to make your own turrets. open console and type "disable".

So the engine IS totally the same as Skyrim's. I got to remember disable. I used that in Skyrim before, but it has been a really long time.

Thanks for all this info!

I got Covenant actually into a decent settlement. There was just enough space to make a small building inbetween the house with the bunk beds and the guest house. I built a double story building with 5 beds on each floor, turned the guest house into a food and drink vendor, and the trader building I built a trade vendor in it and recruited Rylee.

I disabled the bunk beds and turned the main house into mine and Piper's house. Piper stays in Covenant when I have other companions, and I built a guard post outside. The building that was for the SAFE test I turned into the guard's bed. It took a lot of work, and every so often I have to reassign beds for the settlers, but it turned out pretty good. I have 10 settlers now, I'm going to keep it at 10 because it would be over crowded if I got any more.

Nice!

I like that fact you got a SOLID wall around the location.

And once the turrets are disabled, you can pop your own turrets there to give you 360 coverage defence.

Only problem is the very limited building limit you get. It caps out very quickly. Hope a mod can help resolve this issue soon.

Yes, you can enter "unlock" when selecting the door in the command prompt and it will remove the need for a key.

While certainly, not having the "creative control" over the layout is annoying, I at least did find it possible to place 20 sleeping bags (20 being 10 + cha, the max settler count and thus the most beds needed), 7 water pumps (21 water, and thus balancing with the max pop), 2x heavy laser turrets + multiple machine gun turrets (24+ defense, and thus minimizing risk of attack), power supply, recruitment tower, and enough crops and salvage stations to keep the settlers busy.

Sure, its not pretty, but its a far cry from "broken."

There should be a console command to make the beds (and other items) 'unowned'.
