I believe I've found the fix for this issue...
I've made an Imgur album explaining the cause and fix: http://imgur.com/a/770N4
Here's a short textual summary of the fix:
1. During normal gameplay (not in VATS, a terminal, a conversation, a menu, etc.) , open the console and run the command 'DumpInputEnableLayers'
2. If you see a Layer there, note it's number. Not the hexadecimal one, the normal integer one -- such as '0'.
3. Run the command 'ResetInputEnableLayer [#]' to remove the restrictions that layer had.
Thats very informative and helpful, but is there an actual fix to the failure of the script so i can open the door and carry on the main quest?
Im about 45 hours into my game and ive jist been doing side missions so id love to get to the main plot
I do not know the root cause of that script failing. A workaround is to noclip into the Vault, do your business, and then noclip out. You can then fasttravel somewhere, and your companon will join you then.
open up the console (press ~) and click on the vault door.
type "disable" (without quotes)
ta-ta! door gone!
Let's see, this is where I say, Nice Necro Man.
Sorry for bringing this from the dead - but I'm now doing this in VR
Thats crazy how you got that on xbox. If this way before mod days you literally would not be able to get through.
I get it every playthrough. I just have to make a save after it before final character creation.
All best.
One way to get around this, is to lookup the name of the area you are trying to get into (eg. "ClothingStore") and then add "int" to the end, which is short for "interior", where the game cells are concerned. For example, if you wanted to get into "ClothingStore" interior cells [to continue with the questline in them], you could type:
coc clothingstoreint
Which would teleport you to the interior area of ClothingStore, hopefully 'right behind the door' - as though you walked through it. COC in the command is short for CenterOnCell, part of the console commands for FO4.
[It also works the other way, as typing "coc graygardenext" (no quotes) will teleport you to the first cell of the Greygarden Settlement]
Just an idea, and I don't think it works on consoles [sorry], but it's just another idea of something to try... GL with it
Steps to fix the problem:
1) Deactivate your mods;
2) Play the game and ensure the doors work as they are supposed to;
3a) If they don't work verify files and/or reinstall the game;
3b) If they work reactivate your mods in groups to single out the mod causing the issue;
4) Search around if there is any patch for that mod that solves the issue;
5a) If there is apply it and see if it fixed things;
5b) If there is not or the patch did not work, decide whether that mod is essential to your game and if you want to keep using it knowing that it will create issues.
