Companion Approval/Affection/Reputation is a PITA.
Some companions are super easy to get this stuff e.g.; Nick all get approval for every single terminal you hack, MacCready for every item you steal, ect. Then there's companions like Curie or Preston that are horribly difficult to get ANYTHING for because you only get approval with them from non-repeatable quest dialog options. So god help you if you don't have any side quests laying around and you want to get their rep up.

Seriously, I've been wandering around with Curie now for maybe 12 hours now trying to do ANYTHING to get approval up for her ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ perk. I swear In the time it's taken for her just to get 2/3 of the way I had 4 other companions maxed out.

Preston likes it when you change either weapon or armor mods. Got a ton of approval from keeping him at Sanctuary, without even having him as a follower.

Just keep them with you and they will max out without you noticing. Don't waste time reloading on a dislike or get all worked up to raise them. I just travel with them and play as usual and they eventually max out before you know it. Even with strong , i lockpick , enter power armor , chug drugs and he still idolize me after a while.

True Story: I go tired of Strong complaining about my junk collection and lock-picking, opened the dialogue to get rid of him and ship him to a settlement so I could get Cait. The convo turned into him liking me, and I got the perk.

Too weird.

You may have already done them but there's a "Curie Loved That" opportunity at the Polymer Lab and another while talking to the Nannybot at the Diamond City school to give your approval a boost. Coincidentally, Curie's approval boost from the Nannybot conversation sparked her romance option with me.

Also if you haven't met the Railroad yet (which you likely have), Curie loves it if you talk about synths highly. Curie loves one of the speech options in the "Story of the Century" quest, and likes another. I think it's something about being hopeful.
