Steam says Fallout 4 is not installed.
I was playing just fine last night, even all the files are still there, anyone else experiencing this? All other games on this harddisk are still marked as installed..

That's basically how I solved it but it took quite long and I am just very curious how something like this happens, hard drive is relatively new as well.

It might be a glitch one way or another. Steam "knows" where games are by adding it to the registry. Anything that cleans that registry might have removed the entry, or steam had an update that couldn't read/identify the entry.

It might be even more finnicky than that, but if the issue doesn't persist for you or comes back every so often, then I wouldn't worry about it too much.

From time to time its a good practice to do this to ensure everything is in check, hit WINDOWS + R then enter this into the run box: steam://flushconfig
It will refresh Steam...
Oh and when u re-launch steam for the first time after u refresh, do it from the .exe in the Steam folder, not any shortcut u have..

I have played Fallout 4 for 196 hours and now it wants to reinstall the game, twice in 2 days,
Did it yesterday, but cant again, , thats 96GB and I dont have the download capacity or speed from my internet supplier.

Refreshing steam does nothing.......
I am not recommending this game to anyone, Its is great, but not worth the feedback on this topic.

It's amazing to me that it's 2020 and this issue still happens. Several times in a week. I've checked all processes, malware scanner, antivirus, nothing is touching the reg. BUT, this does work.

Particularly .."To ensure that you do not encounter this issue, always allow Steam to close properly when shutting down your computer. Allowing Windows to force Steam to close when it is writing to a hard drive may cause Steam library and installation information to become corrupted."

3rd time I've posted this in a week.

Of course it still happens. That is because people ignore all the notices like this:

So as long as people keep shutting down Steam improperly it is going to keep happening.

TLDR: User error.

It may be missing only a few files.
Try the download, if that's the case it will progress quickly.

Yeah takes about twenty minutes to reinstall. I had it happen to two of my games last year because Steam didnt shut down properly.
