From what I tell it's the white people inviting them, and the black, congo-ean people wanting to stay there.

Well, it was written in the 50's for one, lol.

But seriously, one of the singers is talking about how great "civilization is" the other is listing everything great about civilization and going "I'd rather stay in my jungle"

And "bongo bongo bongo" sounds suspiciously like "Bunga Bunga" the old school (and I mean old school) generic "This is how black people in africa talk" colonial black face humour.

That said, I love the song.

You know you can get hurt that way daniel?
Just because something was written in the 50s doesn't mean its racist. The song isn't praising "Civilization" it's pointing out the problems with it, so how's it racist?
Its the missionary that is supposed to return singing "I'll stay where I am" and describing his life there, because he prefers it over the industrial society lifestyle.

I knew when i first heard this song, I thought, "This is gonna get some kid's in a knot."

Try to not see everything as racist, kids. I know you can't help it cos your woke teachers embedded that nonsense deep into your brains. You'll purge it out eventually, like I did.

From a certain perspective I guess it could be deemed racist in that it relies upon lazy cultural stereotypes that portray Congo natives as primitive and uncivilised,

But I think that, given that 78 years have passed since the song was recorded (it was actually 1948, not the 1950s) I don't see any real need to make a big deal out of it.

Besides which it rhymes 'Bomb' and 'am' which is a winner in my book.
